No, it's not what you think. Every second Monday, I go to the local children's hospital to entertain the kids. Today, I brought my son with me. I dressed him up like a clown, with a much les severe, but similar make-up job as his daddy, and together, we made the kids laugh and smile. He was a natural. He knew just when to laugh and grin. And when he grins, everybody looking at him grins too. :)
We just got home. I got some pictures. One of the nurses took a few. I'll try to convince my wife to let me post a few. But don't hold your breath. (She's a privacy nazi. That's why I avoid certain personal details)
But these pictures have the potential to overwhelm her senses with their unabashed cuteness, so maybe I can sneak one past her. ;)

Japanese hospitals aren't big on this kind of thing, but a certain someone is a "close personal friend" ;) of Santa Claus, who has been know to visit children's and juvenile wards at a major hospital here in Osaka at Christmas. I wish you could come over here and do your bit as well.

That would be fun. Japan is on my list of nations to harass. :)

That is so awesome! I am so happy to hear an account of parents still teaching their children service to others (and your story is especially sweet)! I just recently started volunteer tutoring again (for reading challenged kids) - and the rewards are so much greater than money!

You have a tour guide at your service when you wish to do so.... :D
(And note that Osaka is the capital of Japanese comedy. Chances are that any comedian you see on Japanese national TV will be from Osaka. Osaka is especially famous for manzai, a local form of cross talk. You absolutely must visit the Yoshimoto theater (http://www.japan-zone.com/modern/yoshimoto.shtml).)

Heh. Little Goofball is 7 months old. The most pertinent thing he learned is that hospitals have yummy applesauce. :) But he had fun. I had fun. The kids had fun.

OH! hahaha Well, it's still cool that you do it, and obiously will instill those values in him. Now I can understand your wife's privacy requests better (though that would be cute to see).
We normally have someone show up around Christmas time to hand out little toys to the kids here, its always so nice to see them so happy. They smile at even the smallest of gifts.
We've had two service dogs in the past couple months as well, the kids eat it up! They love having the animals around, I just wish they would come around more often.
As a future doctor I commend you for what you're doing, and for what you're teaching your child. :)

I'm a nut. I know it. I'm a 31 year old with the maturity of a 17 year old. I can watch an episode of "Jackass", and say, 'Did it.' or 'Wow. I'll have to try that.' I'm perfectly happy being the way I am. However, I'm also a firm believer that seriousness is expressed with action. I would consider myself a hypocrite to go off every day here in the forums about whats wrong with the world and never do anything about it.
So I do what I can. WHich isn't much. My only real talent is making people laugh. Well, it's my only non-sexual talent. There's that thing I can do with my...um... maybe that's a subject for another thread.
Anyhoo... I do what I can.
