Actually Democrats are in the leftist field which believes in a much stronger central government and higher taxes.

Actually, I thought voting was the entire point of democracy, and seeing how old fashioned town hall meetings are out of the question today, voting=central government (unfortunately, the entire concept is wasted on things such as American Idol).

Yes. I wish for social security to be privatized and have welfare and unemployment reduced massively.

I really don't see what's so good about a decentralized government.

States can take away rights just as easily as the feds (if not easier).

I'd feel pretty nervous being an atheist living in Mississippi if the federal government was completely decentralized.

On the other side, it must be pretty irritating to progressive states like Massachusetts and Vermont when the feds start to come down on them for legalizing gay marriage.

I'm pretty sure he means as in a democracy, government by the people, not the political party.

In repsonse to the original statement, it depends on a person's ideology. Democracy can be facist or socalist. It is neutral in this respect. I personally believe that collective government is the ideal way to govern, democracy in its truest form. (I think this commonly dubbed anarchy, but that word has such negative connotations) This of course never works on any type of large scale, and I hold no illusions about it.
