Well, sometimes it can be an interesting conversation topic.
I believe race is more of a cultural construct than anything.

No, although it is an interesting way of division among people. There are differences, although not as dramatic as to deny one group the rights of another or something of that sort.

Since you didnt ask if it mattered to me directly, I will answer yes.
I say yes because I often fill out paper work that asks "Race?".
Would they ask if it didnt matter?
My city is considering creating a Race specific section of downtown where business will be(encouraged to be) owned Race(Negro) exclusivly.
So Race is obviously important to the City.
We already an Official "Mexican Town" though unlike what is being named African town the Hispanics encourage outside interests to come and invest in their neighborhood, to very fruitful results.
Does it mean anything to me?
Beyond some imaginary crutch, no not really.
I take my own heritage very seriously, but hey, its mine...I can do what I want with it.
As far who i am friends with?

No Race does not matter, to me.
Does it matter in society?
Unfortunately yes.

Nope, Race doesn't matter . . . unless you happen to be English :sniper: (Note that I'm Scottish :P)
But all joking aside, race does unfortunately matter to some segments of society. But fortunately rascism overall is in the decline! :)
Unfortunately, in some areas, it's on the rise :(

I have noticed, Brittanic, that your other posts on other "ethnic," threads are targeting the thread as being rascist. Just because someone asked what the ethnicity of others are doesn't mean they want to squeeze information out of others and then insult them. I personally enjoy it when people tell me where their from.. one of my good friends is exactly 10% Irish, 10% Anglo-saxon, 20% Egpytian, 30% Japanese, and 30% Kenyan. And he looks Native American. Lol..
But if that's not what your getting at, disregard this post...

I don't think race matters at all (everyone looks the same flayed). However, ethnicity includes history and culture which can lead to certain values being held (or not) by the person in question.
How about another response - your poll is dumb, I think that race matters but that does not make me a racist. Do you think it's a coincidence that all of the best sprinters in the world are black, or that certain countries excell in certain fields... Race is an issue, as is everything, it's simply a matter of how you interpret it that's important.
Oh and by the way, when your country plays a sport - which side do you cheer for?

I couldn't care less about a person's race on a personal level, or any other level. However, in my country, the great US of A, race has become an obsession. A person's race is considered in admission to college. Race is considered in hiring. Race is considered in giving out government contracts. Should race be considered in these cases with the argument that we need to overcome historical injustices, or ignored on the premise that race relations are advanced enough not to worry about it?

race is nothing. Its good to be proud of your culture, but not diss others. Under our skin we are all white/gray bones.

Neither, most likely. If I had cheered them on, it would have probably been out of sympathy. Saddam Hussein (I read this in The New York Time) shut down (or destroyed, or did something bad like that) to the Iraqi soccer team, and now that he is gone, they can play normally again...

I think it depends on the context of the situation.
I trust my family more than I trust strangers and since my family is the same ethnicity as me, I must, therefore, trust my ethnicity more.
Anyway, enough about that.
Why are some people so deathly afraid of nouns and adjectives?
"I'm an American Indian"
"Dude, you shouldn't use labels!"
"But even my name is a label."
"Cast off the shackles of society, man!"
"Shackles and Society are both labels."
**Stupid hippy's head explodes**
"Do you want me to call an ambulance, or would you prefer I not use such labels?"
**The twitching stops**
"Morgue it is then."

I believe you should judge people by their actions, not the color of their skin, their religion, their language, their culture, or their way of life.
For Example, i would treat a good black muslim and a good white catholic and a good tan hindu and a good yellow(its the closet color i can think of...) budhist the same. HOWEVER, i would treat a bad white catholic and a good black muslim differently(and vice versa). I would treat the good person better than the bad person.

Well I did answer yes because like it or not I may not, pigeon hole people by 'race' but I do tend to do it by ethnicity, or national origin. Not out of meaness or badness mind, but for entertainment purposes only :) I also like telling jokes about English people for example.

Race matters look at the crime stats!
Roughly 14 TIMES more crime is commited in the UK by Blacks over Asian/Chinese.
You can look up the stats on the UK government statistics website.
Now whether this is cultural or genetic still doesn't change the above facts.
Well, Japanese woman are hot, but I'm still pretty good towards white girls. Black woman aren't terrible, but I wouldn't say I'm attracted to them. But on the whole, I'd say no it doesn't matter.

And your point? :)
This poll is stupid. This entire thread is stupid. You're trying to make a point, but you're making it wrong. There's nothing wrong with talking about race. It's fun and an interesting topic of conversation. If you had made a thread about affirmative action, I would have gladly voted against it, but in this thread, I must simply vote the third option, since I am neither a racist, nor pidgenhole people based on race, but still think race is fun to talk about.

;) Dude, my view isn't up there. I'm sure people have said this but i'm lazy, tired, and don't feel like reading though the whole thread.
I think that people should be proud of thier heritiage, and people should all have the same opertuinities. Seriously though, some people talk about a colored blind society, ain't gonna happen children. anyone read the book the giver? we don't want that now do we, so we should, en mi opion, treat be aware of everyone's uniqiness and respect and enjoy them.
