What if a gay couple wants to adopt a child that
is sickened at the thought of same sex partners?

How often is it that a child, when adopted, is old enough to have such strong opinions on a matter like sexuality?

Why would a gay couple want to adopt a kid like that in the first place?

I do believe social services takes into account the reaction of the child when placing them for adoption...

a) likely that most children up for adoption haven't been taught to hate yet
b) likely that most couples wanting to adopt are wanting to be loving parents, and most kids will respond really well to being loved and wanted
and, happy to hypothesize that most kids are uncomfortable with the idea of their parents having sex and this is not sexuality or gender dependant!

Ain't that the truth--talk about scarring you for life, just walk in on your parents in the middle of a Mazola party. Yeesh.

I'd really like to agree with both a) and b), but I'm not sure I can.
It depends on the age of the child being adopted. Sure, any child under 4-5 years is going to like having parents, of whatever variety, that will care for them, and be a constant and reliable factor in their lives (even care home workers and foster carers who are really good at what they do will come and go).
But for a child of more like 9-10, it may be a completely different story. There may be problems with the child, emotional, psychological, whatever, that have contributed to them not yet having been adopted. Add to that the damage that years in state care, even of the well-intentioned variety, may have caused, and such a child may well be hate-filled, and have picked up the use of the word "gay" as an all-purpose withering insult.
It's not about the "having sex" part of a gay relationship that the child would have a problem with, it would be the "I'm the only kid in my class with two dads / two moms" part. Children are mean, and pick on those who are different, in both blatant and subtle ways.

Don't be daft, Sukafitz. Then that child wouldn't like them and would have to deal with it, or they would just not adopt the child. Think before you post...

I don't think people are allowed to adopt a child if it doesn't want to be adopted by them. And that's the way it should be.

This a moot issue in Oklahoma. During our recent election, the people passed a Constitutional amendment defines marriage as between a man and a woman. Also, same sex marriages from any other state will not be recognized. If a same sex couple gets married in another state, adopts a child, and moves to Oklahoma the adoption is not recognized as a legal adoption and DHS can remove the child from the home.
Now, if you want to call this homophobic, go ahead, but remember the issue was passed by a very large majority of the voters. I guess that would mean a majority of Oklahomans are homophobic, but I would rather believe they are for traditional values and believe in majority rule.
