Bush not so fanatical as it might seem.

During an interview recently President George W. Bush was asked if he believed Christians and non-Christians went to heaven. His response was: "Yes, they do. We have different routes of getting there. But I want you to understand, I want your listeners to understand, I don't get to decide who goes to heaven."

Where did I get this quote you ask, simple US News and World Report: Volume 137, Number 16, page 22.

Is Bush as fundamentalist as it may have orignally seemed?

I never said he was a fanatic.

It's good to know he doesn't think he's St. Peter, if that's what you're asking.

Damn. I needed to get this before the election, print it out, and post it all over the city here. Everyone around me voted for Bush because of his "good Christian morals", and trust me, they would disagree with him on this subject in an instant. According to them, only people who accept Jesus Christ as their savior and live their life by every principle advocated by him in the Bible go to heaven.

I don't think it's true that this is what Bush honestly believes, I think it's a transparent attempt to get less people to hate him. It'll fall through, if only because those of us who dislike his actions aren't going to change over a few words, and those who support him for his words will have to reconsider that.

Stupid, Mr. President. Bad PR.

Edit: hey, could I get a link? I need to send this out in an email to my friends. It's too late to change their vote, but I could at least start showing them the extent of Bush's flip-floppery.

I guess it's a matter of degrees.
Personally I think anyone who actually believes there is a heaven/hell, and that you'll go there when you die and uses it as basis for their social policies IS a fanatic.
I prefer ppl using logic and rationality when looking at social/economic problems, not 'What would God do?'
