Osama, Usama whats the difference. It's in arabic, so we're just translating it directly according to how it sounds.
It's just like Jon and John

Ding. There's a right and wrong pronounciation, but not a right and wrong spelling.
Just like Mohammed, Muhammed, & Mahomet are equally correct, as with Muslim/moslem. I think they're properly ma HA med & MOO zlim, but as the thousand and one spelling show, it depends on the accent of who you ask.

For the Mohammed, Muammed & Mahomet, it depends, I think, on the dialect.

It's Usama.
"Jon" doesn't become "John" once you cross a national border. Two different names.
The fact that Usama is pronounced Osama is that people are ignorant and can't be bothered to write a foreigner's name properly. Always happened and still does. Same with people calling Iraqis Arabs...
Oh, and I think Saddam's name is something like "Husayn". Can't remember..

Friend of mine from Kashmire pronounces it "ah-sama" with the emphasis on the "ah". Jon/John are both shorts for Jonathan. Burning question: why Bill or Dick from William?

Eh? Dick is from Richard. Still makes no sense, though.

You're right!! At least I knew there was no obvious connection.
