Do Voters Care Anymore?

Jim Bunning, Republican Senator who won his election in Kentucky-

"Let me explain something: I don't watch the national news, and I don't read the paper. I haven't done that for the last six weeks. I watch Fox News to get my information."

Said his opponent resembled one of Saddam Hussien's sons.

Made an unsubstantiated claim that one of his opponent's staffers beat his wife "black and blue" at a political stop.

Did not admonish his own staffers who implied that his opponent was gay.

Would only debate his opponent via satellite from his office, and admittedly read from a teleprompter.

Jim DeMint - Elected to the Senate from South Carolina -

Said unwed, pregnant women should not be allowed to be teachers.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Peter Stark - Democrat elected to House from California -

"You think you are big enough to make me, you little wimp? Come on, come over here and make me, I dare you…You little fruitcake. You little fruitcake. I said you are a fruitcake." - to fellow legislator.

George Bush has many instances that have given me sheer terror, but my favorite from the troop supporter is:

"My answer is bring 'em on." — challenging militants attacking U.S. forces in Iraq

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Not trying to make a partisan argument, and would appreciate if everyone did the same. But do people care who they vote for anymore? I mean the Bunning race was absolutely rediculous, but he still won.

This reminds me of when Zell Miller challenged that reporter to a duel.

And if we can run candidates as crazy as Bush and as boring as Kerry, I don't think we can say that we care who the candidates are anymore.

Well, counting the number of new and first-time voters out there this election day, I'd say, "Yeah, voters care more this election than in most recent ones." However, this does not mean that YOUR issues are cared about... ;-)

"Republican" and "Kentucky" say it all. You answered your own question on this one.

Jim DeMint - Elected to the Senate from South Carolina -

Said unwed, pregnant women should not be allowed to be teachers.

And later apologized. Not saying that makes it much better, but you should include all the facts.

Peter Stark - Democrat elected to House from California -

"You think you are big enough to make me, you little wimp? Come on, come over here and make me, I dare you…You little fruitcake. You little fruitcake. I said you are a fruitcake." - to fellow legislator.

I find that hilarious. Hell, I'd be more likely to vote for a guy who said that. ;)

I blame our two-party system. It's hard to care when you always feel as though you're choosing the lesser of two evils rather than the best man for the job.

I would say DeMint believed it. Anybody can apologize for anything, apologizing means nothing without some truth behind the apology

Yeah, mental instability, being prone to violence, and unabashed sexism are issues that didn't seem to be important to many people besides myself this year.

You did read the part where I said the apology doesn't make it much better, right?

Anyway, what you're saying is that the people of a heavily Republican state should vote for the other guy because the guy who best represents their ideals is a bit of a crackpot. Sorry, not going to happen, and never would have before, either; there's no "anymore" about it. This is nothing new. Ever heard of a man named Strom Thurmond?
