The Philosophy of Liberty
The Lightning Star

While searching the internet I came upon a very throught-provoking flash movie. It uses simple pictures, a surprisingly strange background music, and simple words to portray a very moving and powerful point.
You can find it at : http://uploads.ungrounded.net/content.php?id=67084&name=67084_PhilosophyOfLiberty_englis.swf&title=The%20Philosophy%20of%20Liberty&date=1099544400&quality=b&uj=0&w=600&h=400
Just wait for it to load then it will start up. Its around 1MB large so if you have a slow connection be patient.

Very interesting and well done. The philosophy behind this flash program seems to most closely resemble libertarianism. As an ideal, it's not too bad, but as with most idealized philosophies, where it breaks down is in practice. I think the logical consequences of this approach to life would often be somewhat bizzare and unworkable.
BTW ... the music is classical, but I can't remember the title just now.

Liberty is to Heisenberg as philosophy is to opinions.

At first i thought it was sortof Anarchism(seeing how it seemed like it didnt like government) but after i saw it all i thought it was Libertarianism as well.

..plus the wait for Flash Player 7 to download. Eurgh.
And yeah, I agree, though the tone of the animation does seem somewhat absolutist. It's not exactly much use quoting libertarian ethics to the guy holding a gun to your head. ;)

A little - assuming you mean Rousseau. Although a bit of a goit, I did like his claim that the ideal govt depends on the nature of the people - people motivated by ideals will be best served by a republic, people motivated by honour are best served by a monarchy/feudal structure, while those motivated by fear belong in a tyranny.
Of course, since then we've developed the constitutional monarchy to combine monarchy and republic - maybe if we can find a way to incorporate tyranny we'll finally have the ideal form of govt.

Cute, but ultimately trite and elementary. Good for grade schoolers and people from traditional dictatorships, I guess.
