Halo2: Video Game or Movie?

Okay, I'm at the movies yesterday to see Team America: World Police (America, fuck yeah!) and, in the pre-movie previews, there is an advertisement for Halo 2. It's an extremely impressive video. It starts with a view of Earth from space and a voice-over pretty much stating how screwed humanity is (Although not in those words). It then switches views to scenes of combat, aliens swearing to continue to jihad against the humans, frenzied reactions to attack, and pretty much everything else that you see in action movie previews. It was awesome. Anyway, once the preview ended and it said that it was going to come out November 9 (Only five days!) I heard a lot of other people in the theatre whispering "The 9'th? That's so soon, how come I haven't heard of this movie before?" and "I wonder which CGI group made this one? I hope it's Pixar, I loved Monsters, Inc." and "Wow, I am definitely going to go see that!" and other such things. It gave the impression that they actually thought it was a movie, and not merely a video game of epic proportions.

Now, when I heard them speaking I thought they were simply video-game ignorant and didn't know that it was a game for X-Box. Then I began to wonder, what if they do make it into a movie? What if Halo becomes the next in a long line of video game movies? Then something almost knocked me over: What if it is the first good video game movie? When you look at the game already released, how they already have quality actors, excellent visual effects, a phenominal plot (Though I do have to admit that the plot isn't very original, advanced aliens moving to conquer humanity has been done before), and award winning music I began to think that it is very possible that it could be a good movie.

I swear, on the trip home there was this glowing light following me the entire way.

Speaking of FPSes being made into movies -
They may make the Metroid franchise into movies; I heard about this on IGN like a while ago (I hope they don't tho; usually video games gone to movies bomb terribly (Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within, anyone?))

I have doubts about it actually becoming a movie, although, the commercials that I have seen on tv were simply amazing. Have you read the books? They go into so much more detail, such as exactly how Spartan 117 (Master Chief) became a Spartan, and what he went through to become who he is. The story is so good. Oh, and how the Covenant and human forces met each other.

Halo would be a great series of movies, but I don't think that they'll do such a thing to it, at least, not now.

The Spirits Within wasn't actually from a specific video game, although it was disappointing for the entire Final Fantasy spectrum. Final Fantasy: Advent Children will make up for all of it.

Euroslavia, I've read (and own) all three books. In my opinion the two by Eric Nylund (The prequel and sequel to the game) were the best, the one that took place during Halo seemed like it was based purely on combat and, though I do love a little fighting, I do need more than just fighting.

Truly kickass novels.

I'm currently on the first book, about halfway through it. When the Spartans are going to be sent on their first mission. MJOJNIR.... I can't remember if thats the abbreviation or whatever. So far, this is probably one of the best books I've read.

Project MJOLNIR. It's not an abbreviation, Mjolnir was the War Hammer of Thor in Norse Mythology so they used it as the code name for the project to develop the Spartans armor.

Yes, thats it. I couldn' exactly remember what it was. I just got into that part. Do they mention anything about the second wave of Spartans in the rest of the book?

Nope, the second group that CPO Mendez is training aren't mentioned in any of the books, I can only assume they'll be revealed in Halo2 or one of the later books

It would most certainly be interesting if another Spartan (like Kelly or Linda, cause I liked them, even though I'm pretty sure they die) was introduced, making multi-player a little more interesting.

Halo would be a good movie BUT...

Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children is gonna rule!(Because 1, its based off of FFVII, one of the best Games in HISTORY, 2. Its got excelent graphics, 3. Proffesionals who've already seen it says its great, and 4. It will still make millions due to the fact that every FF fan in the world will see it.)

I agree. But I think it's the greatness of the story in the books that makes it into a great movie(s) idea. Great, detailed stories are usually the best for making movies from books or other mediums. They allow for more imagination, more of a background that's already been decided, more common knowledge.

Also the game has an extensive following which would make the movie fairly successful even without a large advertising campaign. I respect Bungee for their dedication to quality and storyline, on top of the standard staples of general gameplay, marketting and replayability. I think they'll wait for a while after Halo 2's out and then carefully consider their options in making a movie. I think they'll make the right decision, whatever that is.

Just because it doesn't make money doesn't mean it's not good. It just means that there won't be a sequel.

Also...it's all opinion. I hear comic book people talking about how much the punisher movie sucked and video game people talking about how much the first resident evil movie sucked. Personally, I liked both of them for what they were worth. Everyone has their own opinion. That being said...lol...is the second resident evil movie any good? Haven't seen it.
