For the love of God computer hackers, you create computer viruses that cause billions in damage, and you tell me that you can't hack into those electronic voting machines and rigg the election for Kerry? Eh..."fixing" the election machines would require a lot of ninja skills too, as they're not on a global network...what the Internet is...

Besides, the reason virii (I think that's the correct plural) is to demonstrate to Microsoft the flaws in their program. Then skript kiddis take the virus and use it to steal your credit card number and such.

LOL, maybe hackers tend to be Republicans?

Or maybe if you spend your life in front of a computer tinkering with code, you are not inclined to get passionate about politics.

They're good hackers too, the term actually used to be associated with programmers. For example I'm a kernel hacker. That means I mess with OS code.

not all hackers are out to destroy..... in fact, most aren't... the damn script kiddies give hackers a really bad name though

Ok want me to really point out the problems with that?

Hackers don’t create viruses … common misconception code writers and crackers do.

The election machines are not on a global network (in fact hard to even conceder it a wan except for the distances)

Running an encryption scheme of any sort puts the window in which to tamper much too small (128 can take almost 2 years on any computer that even the government has) and that is if they allow you a large number of trys
(this is getting hard to dumb it down)

Ok lets try even simpler
We are not in a position to have access to them
Nor are we privy to information necessary to know things like background kernel or os in general
Lack of time to either crack the traffic (assuming a day or two) WAY not enough time

No way to get hold of a test machine to dissect, nor enough of the traffic to analyze (assuming they were on a network we had physical access to

We essentially know nothing … with no real way to find out
