While you were re-electing a president:
Senator-elect Jim DeMint (http://www.thestate.com/mld/thestate/9888340.htm): Thinks that unwed pregnant women and gays are unfit to be schoolteachers.
Senator-elect Tom Coburn (http://www.fox23.com/news/state/story.aspx?content_id=BF956298-934E-4B30-B9D3-DC274E134AF4): Wants the death penalty for abortion doctors.
Senator-elect John Thune (http://www.ontheissues.org/Social/John_Thune_Education.htm): Mr. School Prayer Amendment.
Voters in 11 states voted to ban same-sex marriage (http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2004/pages/results/ballot.measures/). The lowest margin was 57%-43%. The highest (Mississippi) was 86%-14%. Kentucky's also bans civil unions (http://www.courier-journal.com/election/2004/ky/K1-gay1103-6582.html). That one was 75%-25%.
The Senate will likely be split 55-45 (http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2004/pages/results/senate/) in favor of Republicans, creeping closer to a filibuster-proof supermajority. Meanwhile, 89% of these guys (http://supreme.lp.findlaw.com/supreme_court/justices/presjustices.html) are older than 65.
How depressing is that? Enjoy your tax cut, America. You're going to need it.

Maybe a Scalia court will have the constitution in mind before they consider "the right to privacy/abortion" which never shows up in the constitution. Your esteemed Roe v Wade court said they could find no mention to a right to privacy or abortion but that the constitution had a general respect for both.
They all did exactly what they shouldn't have done. They took a giant dump on the constitution.

I've never been more ashamed to be an American than after this election. The fact that there are so many people in this country who support one of the most disturbing social agendas ever seen in the executive office, one of the most heavily republican congress', and possibly the most conservative Supreme Court in history, really make me worry about the ability of people to think. The Democratic party needs to figure out what it has to do in order to wake up Americans, and realize what a horrible direction they've been heading. They need to ignore this debacle, and work on taking back both branches of government in the next election. At least then the system will approach looking like a real republic. A two-party system may not be that great, but it beats the hell out of a one-party system.

Anybody else considering moving to Canada?

I actually read up on Kerry online and I don't even live in America. I figured that I didn't agree with all his ideas, some things I blatantly opposed him on, but on many things I agreed with him at least partly. As opposed to Bush who I opposed on pretty much everything. Therefore I felt pretty justified in supporting Kerry, although my true alleigance will always be to David Cobb. Long live Greens!

I wouldn't get too excited about that if I were you. I'm not certain the historical trend is going to mean much in the next off-year elections. Prior to the last off-year elections, the trend was for both terms that the president's party would lose ground in congress. The trend is based upon suppport for the president bringing support to canidates of his party, but the increased level of partisanship makes this trend meaningless.

This is why I find it so disgusting that he got in...it just shows how little the Republican party really stands for anymore. If you yanks want Bush you deserve him. If you want to see democracy go up in flames and civil rights slashed, which a majority of you obviously want judging from the banning gay marriage thing, if you want tax cuts for the rich and no medicare so that many of you are too poor to get your broken arm set or ride in an ambulance go ahead. You asked for it, you got it. I just can't believe that so many of you want that monkey to represent your country. Even if those things I listed don't all happen, this one certainly will: the rest of the world will see W when the see America, and most of them will be full of anger and hatred.
