Remember, Remember the 5th of November!
This is to Brits mainly, though an outside perspective might be interesting!
"Remember, Remember
The Fifth of November
Gunpowder, Treason and Plot
I don't see no reason
Why Gunpowder Treason
Should ever be forgot!"
Is the burning of an effigy of Guy Fawkes outdated? Is it time we stopped releasing fire works into the night sky to celebrate the failure of the gunpowder plot?
Or is it still relevent?
Or...you just don't know what the hell I'm on about? :D
If you don't know what I'm talking about, you can ask! I don't bite...unless you ask ;)

It's archiac, but as I'm not British, my opinion probably is irrelevant.

I have no problem with it. Why can't we British have a day of the year in which we can celebrate our history? The French have Bastille day. The Americans have July 4th. Why can't we have Novermber 5th?

History? Guy Falks? WHO CARES! Pretty colours go big bang! dancing and swirling!
PS: Sometimes I think Guy Falks had the right idea... Blair making a speach to the Lords, the Royal Family present... *shudders in pure delight at the fantasy*

Im American, but I said yay for the pretty "colours" ;)
And like someone else mentioned, we "Yanks" have July 4th, why cant you have your Guy Fawkes (Falkes?) day?
Maybe I should move to Britain for a while...get away from all the damn Bushies here ;)

It is archaic, but if people feel the need to blow shit up once in a while, it's safer than joining the army

Traditional message of Bonfire Night: "Watch out Papists about!"
Probably one of the first attempt to scare a populace about an exagerated external threat.

It's an excuse to get drunk and let off large fireworks. What could possibly be wrong with that?
And it's not archaic; the origonal reason, of celebrating the foiling of the plot, has been subverted and inverted so it's now the celebration of the attempt being made. Check out the Guys - there'll be far more Blairs and Bushes than Osamas.

We celebrate Guy Fawkes Day in New Zealand too!!!
Except all the good fireworks are illegal now, dammit.

Bonfire night is just about letting out fireworks and lighting fires in the middle of the street.
I remember November 5 for The Matrix: Revolutions.
We celebrate Guy Fawkes Day in New Zealand too!!!

Cool, didn't know it was celebrated outside of Britain.
