George W. Bush Wins Election

Ignorance, bigotry, and right-wing religious extremism have prevailed. My own state of Ohio delivered the deathblow to the Democratic Party last night...there is no way that I can see that John Kerry can overtake the lead Bush has built. It's a sad day in America when we choose a deserter over a decorated war veteran.

All across the country the Democratic order came crashing down. Senate Minority Leader Tom Daschle has been defeated. Three senior Texas Democrats went down in flames thanks to the redistricting efforts rammed through by Tom Delay. It seems that not only will the Republican Party retain control of the White House, it will reinforce its' majorities in the Senate and House. In addition, it will bolster its' majority in among state governors. The right-wing GOP agenda has been confirmed with a resounding "yes!".

This morning, I am ashamed. I originally thought I was ashamed to be an American, but I realized that that is not entirely accurate. I have nothing to be ashamed of, since -I- made the right choice. I voted to reject the lies, the corporate favoritism, the fear. Instead, I am ashamed of my fellow citizens. I am ashamed that we have given this smirking little bastard a second term when 9-11 happened on HIS WATCH! When the economy is in shambles and America is hated around the world because of his actions! Christ people! Does he have to hack up a baby with a hatchet before you turn against him?

Mark my words Bush supporters: Your poor decision is the beginning of the end for the United States of America as a superpower, perhaps even the as a nation. With your endorsement of Bush's policies, America's allies around the world will grow harsher. Our strength will fade regardless of what we do now, because our strength is also a byproduct of the quality of our relationships with our allies.

Kiss your civil liberty goodbye. We won't be observing the Constitution anymore...we're going back to the time when the Bible was the law of the land. The 9 victories for vicious anti-gay resolutions last night by margins of 2-1 and 3-1 indicate it quite clearly. While the rest of the world is becoming more free and more progressive, the U.S. will become more conservative, more closed.

For all those out there in Europe and elsewhere who have been watching, I raise a finger of caution. About half of this country voted against George W. Bush. We just didn't fight hard enough...and now it's too late. The right-wing evangelical Christians now control this country. We've selected a President who believes God is talking to him, and telling him what to do. In any other place, that would be a sign of dementia. But the Republicans have made it a "value".

God help us all.
