Victories and Concessions

When it comes to politics, there is always a point where one has to declare victory. Usually, this point is after the opponent concedes. As seen in this election, John Kerry won't concede until all votes are in - and I am greatful. Already around here I can see people making concession posts, and going on about Bush's victory yesterday. Bush hasn't won yet.

According to CNN, it's still Bush at 254, and Kerry with 252. Considering one needs 270 electoral votes to win the election, I must say that the election isn't over.

After Ohio has been declared for Bush or Kerry, I am sure Kerry will concede (Although there may be some challenges to some votes). That isn't something that only Democrats will do, it will be both Democrats and Republicans - and you all know this. So don't go saying Democrats are being "whiney" about losing.

There are hundreds of thousands of provisional and other ballots that need to be counted, so the clear winner has and will not be decided until all ballots are clearly counted.

So, I ask of you all - please, stop with the claims of victory and concessions. It isn't over just yet.

Thank you. I think a lot of people needed to hear that.

With all due respect, it isn't going to be singing soon at all - one could say the election isn't over until the Electoral College makes it's vote in December.

I still wonder if that West Virginia elector, Richie Robbs, is going to make good on his threat and not vote for Bush.

So it may end up 285-252. :p

Incorrect, it is still possible for Kerry to win the election, although unlikely. Such is the beauty of no faith electors.

Except that he publicly announced that he conceeded the election towards George Bush. If it was close like 2000 then the electorial college would vote. But Kerry conceeded.

If Kerry kept his mouth shut, and waited till every vote was counted, then that would be different. but he didn't He threw in the towel. He told his constituants that it's time to move on and reunite America.

The electoral college still votes, and THEY choose the president, not us.

Only a handful of states actually have restrictions upon their electors.

Every few elections there is some meddling and strange-goings-on when the college meets in December to vote. None of them have actually changed the results, but it is concievable, especially in the close elections nowadays (the 2nd and 6th closest in history, 2000 and 2004 respectively).

The Electoral College still votes. Just like in a normal election, an incumbant doesn't automatically win even if he doesn't have any challengers - it still has to go through the processes mandated by law.

After reading the process of the Electoria College, I agree. Kerry can still win this.
