"I don't like Bush, I think I'll move out of America".......well? get packing.

I’ve heard this several times by American celebrities and people who are on the news, and it makes my blood boil. Moving to another country because your president isn't your choice is

1. Unpatriotic
Think about it, if you’re actually considering moving to another country because you don't like who’s the national leader, you’re not a very good citizen. Why don't you move out if you have that little value for your nation to put up with 4 years of discontent?
2. Hypocritical
You want Kerry to win, and when he doesn’t, you get upset and want to leave the country. What do you think when you hear republicans say this....is it “cry babies”? If Kerry won someone who supports Bush would have to put up with Kerry for 4 years.
3. Emotional
Baby wants its bottle? You can't get everything you want so your taking your toys and going home, but in reverse. Saying you would leave immediately identify the strength of your character and self control immediately.

So if you say I'm wrong and that moving is your individual way of protesting, why don't you find some way to revoke your citizenship before you leave? You really don't deserve it.

Very well stated.

Exactly what I think Queensland Ontario, but hey, the US could do without such people anyway. ;)

I'd just like to respond from my own perspective...seeing Bush on the cusp of reelection, the idea has come up several times between my friends and myself. Thinking about it, I wonder if I wouldn't actually do it. Not just due to his election, of course, but due to policies he implements while in office. Simply, the man scares me. Kerry isn't my ideal candidate, but I don't fear him starting WW3 or provoking terrorists to the point of getting a major American city hit with a dirty bomb.

To address your points...
1. "Unpatriotic"--Well, considering I'm an anarchist, yeah. I feel no particular attachment to any nation.
2. "Hypocritical"--As I addressed above. I won't really disagree with you though, for those who would move just because Bush (or Kerry) was elected.
3. "Emotional"--If it's in the interest of self-preservation, it's purely pragmatic. I don't subscribe to "love it or leave it," I think that's a cop-out. However, being unwilling to leave no matter what is almost as stupid as "my country right or wrong" in my eyes.

I can accept that, but I'm positive that 99.999999999% of people who say they would consider moveing do so because of my stated three reasions.

Most likely. Idiots abound no matter the political grouping.

The term I would have used is "immature." An adult will usually do one of two things when confonted with unacceptable circumstances:

1. Work to change them.

2. Find something else to do.

Leaving when things don't go your way falls into the category of "play the game MY way or I'm taking my toys and going home!"

I would no more consider leaving the US than I would consider disowning my family.

BTW ... good post! :)

I'll be blunt, this subject is not going to be discussed.

"OK, you said you'd leave the country, now get the hell out" - this whole area of politics is right now very emotive and by its very nature, insulting, so I'm pre-empting any nastiness.

Pre-emption works. Do not let yourself be the subject of it.
