Ah well... what is, is.

Well, it looks like Bush is going to win. I did what I could, but it wasn't enough.
On the grand scheme of things, what does it matter?

Humanity is just one species, on one planet- a single speck of dust in the vastness of the universe. Our fate is really of no significance to the galaxy, not to mention the universe as a whole.
Thus, why worry about it?

Because I don't view things on a cosmic scale-I view things on a worldly and personal scale?

Yes, but viewing matters on a cosmic scale is so calming in times like this...

A legitimate arguement, but I think you belittle us a little too far. I'm on the entirely opposite end of the spectrum as you. I think each entity is a universe. This election, indeed, every event that occurs every second all over the world, is crucial. It's all a part of the beautiful design. We are a tapestry. The back of a tapestry is a mess of threads, some twisted and contorted, some cut short, some hidden, some obvious. It seems that if you pulled one out it wouldn't matter. But then, when you turn the tapestry around, you see a beautiful design formed by the mess of wires and string in the back, and the removal of even one thread would taint the magnificent creation.

Even when one examines a thread more closely, it is made up of pieces and pieces, divided into sections, organized carefully, and these parts are themselves made up of smaller particles.

It is all significant. It is all big. It all matters.

Maybe, but I've been through some rather shitty months, and the last thing I need right now is to minimize my importance even more.

A respect-worthy viewpoint, and I admire you for holding it. However, I cannot believe that; I'm too much of a pessimist. If I considered even the smallest detail of existance significant, I'd usually be too depressed to get anything done. If I consider us unimportant, then when my expectations are fulfilled, I can just say "Eh, no surprise."
I still don't like it, but it makes it easier to accept.

Why fight it? Let me quote a favorite poet of mine:

Do not go quietly into the night,
Rage, rage, against the dying of the light.

Oh, sorry. I can understand that. Shall I put up a monument to your importance?

Because I Will Die And I Really Don´t Want To But I Will Because Your Damn Emperor Will Invade My Country And Kill Me!
Hey, he's not mine! If I owned him, I'd be keeping him under better control. I sorrow for your impending doom, but think about things in the long term. Over the lifespan of the universe, all human civilization is but the blink of an eye. What's 80 years more or less compared to that?

Dylan Thomas, isn't it?

Beautiful poem.

Meh, good luck with that one...

Yarr, that's who it is! Yeah, he's pretty awesome, though I'm much more atuned to the eccletability of Cummings

This'll have to do for now. (http://forums2.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=370586)
I'll at least put up a monument of some sort in your honor on my family's property, and more if I can arrange it...
