Forgive me if this subject has come up alot...I'm new here, so I wouldn't know how recently capital punishment has been discussed. However I am very curious about what people think of it. I've noticed a trend in a lot of my Christian friends; though they detest abortion and anyone who stands for it, many of them are strong supporters of capital punishment. So my question to the Christians here at Nationstates is, do you support capital punishment? If so, why? Opinions on capital punishment from non-religious folks are welcome too.

Capital Punishment is utterly pointless. Let these people rot in jail for the rest of their lives, thats the real punishment. Simply put, if these people murder and then we kill them, I see it as hyprocritical. Some may say that being alive is a reward but in some of those prisons, it's a punishment. And yes, I am a Christian.

You know some very right wing 'christians' mate. I figure how the hell can you show that you "love your neighbour" if you allow the state to kill him?

Precisely. But they're a little hard-headed (my friends) and tend to ignore some of the things they support and lobby for go against their own belief system. It's a blast when we debate...
