Is there some truth to what Osama said about America. I've been thinking about what would have happened if we had not involved ourselves in the middle east conflicts. Would we have had a September 11th.

Somehow I believe that the war would have evntually been brought to our door.

If we never involved ourselves in Middle East politics ever, then I doubt we would have ever been targetted by Islamic terrorists.

I think there were a lot of factors that culminated in the attacks on September 11, but I don't think any single one could have necessarily prevented what happened. US involvement in the Middle East certainly pissed off a lot of people, but it certainly wasn't the only reason why what happened happened. (sidenote: I hate how akward it looks to have the same word twice in a row) I don't think that 9/11 would have "eventually happened" anyway, because it's not the kind of event that happens every day. There wouldn't have been as much widespread abhorrance of the United States without our involvement in the Middle East, so something as cataclysmic as the September 11th attacks would probably not have happened otherwise. I think that less devastating (in terms of net casualties) terrorist attacks on the United States of America would probably have happened in due time without the catalyst of our involvement in areas that many people feel ought to be left to the people there. We just have a tendency to piss people off for myriad reasons.

With the world's finite oil supply and huge countries like China, India and Brazil rapidly undergoing industrialization, we have some very nasty oil wars ahead of us.

We should have weaned ourselves off of fossil fuels decades ago, anyway Narco. Doesn't this provide a greater impetus to do so?

Well yeah if humanity was a sane speicies but were not. Killing is so god damn sexy! Seriously who wants to elect a president that doesn't kill anybody, Carter remember him? Didn't think so. Ultimately the world is made up of a bunch of looney leaders who think their counrty should be top dog so they all spend a bizillion dollars on "defense" which makes every other country nervous causing them to spend bizillions on "defense". Ever hear of the bomber gap? Eventually we will all kill each other trying to squeeze the last drop of precious black gold from Saudia Arabia's dried up oil fields to fuel our "defense" industries. Spend all you want on windmills and dog poop powered cars, I just don't think we will ever see a solar powered aircraft carrier.
