think i am voting libertarian. i voted independant last election. It goes against my priciples to vote in a two party system in which i have no control over who actually runs for office. i just get the great decision of picking between the lesser of 2 evils. yeah!

I dont like bush or kerry. What I find horrible is that people hate bush soo much that they are willing to put a self proclaimed war criminal in charge our country while we are at war. The left would vote satan in if he was on the ticket.

Just to prove how bad kerry is(cause we all know how bad bush is) As much as bush is hated you would think that a decent canidate would run away with this election. He is running according to most polls neck and neck with bush. That is how bad he is.

Conspiracy theory: I think the dems wanted to lose this election so that hillary could run in 2008.thats why they chose kerry. why else would they?the only one who was worse on that ticket was john edwards. so make him running mate. just a hunch.

I guess it's nice boosting the third-party canidates' self-esteem by voting for them.

True, Kerry's not going to be the Guiding Light of America - he's not sure enough of his own policies to be that. Howard Dean would have been a much better bet, but he made a noise, which supposedly made him evil in the eyes of middle-class America, but I do believe in 'Anyone but Bush' - even if, probably like you, I believe the Libertarians are the ones that would be the best for America (and the rest of the world).

In an ideal world, I want to see President Badnarik smiling on the White House steps, but it's not going to happen - so I'll settle for John Kerry.

If only. I would love that.

That would be a really good choice if you like irresponsibility in the government. Libertarians have this amazing thought that free trade equals everything out. If government stops regulating the markets and trade then power will undoubtedly shift to the upper class. Money makes money, the more money you have the more money you can make. Vote libertarian if you trust your economic well being to Ken Lay.

Oh. My. God.

You did not just say that. Prepare to be quote-whored, Mister, would Value an Economy over Civil Rights.

Despite this confusion, the Libertarian philosophy is really very easy to understand. Libertarians are, quite simply, people who believe in "Self-Ownership": You own yourself, and no one else on Earth has a higher claim to your body or your labor than you do. So long as people act in a way that doesn't interfere with anyone else's freedom, Libertarians believe that they should be free to do what they please.

Ahem. I believe that the Civil Rights of a Nation trump the Economy of a Nation anyday. What's the use to having a Frightening Economy if your Civil Rights are outlawed? Bravo. You tell them what to buy! Bravo.

The idea of "Self-Ownership" is what distinguishes us from both liberals and conservatives. Every political position that Libertarians take can be traced back to this simple idea. For example, Libertarians are opposed to "liberal" attempts to use the government to regulate people's buying practices, by imposing tariffs on certain goods & industries. We oppose this kind of regulation not because we think that all goods & industries are equally wonderful, but because we believe that people own themselves, and should be allowed to buy what they like, based on their own beliefs and values. If for some people that means buying fair-trade coffee at the local co-op grocery store, then that's great—just as long as they don't use the government's power to force other people to do the same.

Oh nos! What's this? Freedom? Abolishment of trade barriers? The Liberty to.. Buy what one wants?! What the fuck?! Those Libertarians are nutters! Sure it's not, Communism, but hey.

Likewise, Libertarians are opposed to "conservative" attempts to use the government to regulate people's morality, by imposing laws that restrict their behavior on the Sabbath, or at the pharmacy, or in the bedroom. We're opposed to these kinds of legal restrictions not because we think that all lifestyle choices are equally worth pursuing, but because we believe that people own themselves, and should be allowed to decide how to live their lives as they see fit, so long as they aren't hurting anyone else in the process.

'Coz like, you know- Someone three hundred miles away has the right to tell me how to pray, live, or eat. Let alone someone next door.

Libertarians support maximum liberty in both personal and economic matters. They advocate a much smaller government; one that is limited to protecting individuals from coercion and violence. Libertarians tend to embrace individual responsibility, oppose government bureaucracy and taxes, promote private charity, tolerate diverse lifestyles, support the free market, and defend civil liberties.
