And Bush and Kerry have shaken hands. Does that mean they are sleeping together? Does that mean they have hot hot love in the Oval Office? No. This, from the expression on his face, means about the same as that.

I can only assume you know nothing about Al Sharpton's past. While I find him entertaining, I think it is a disgrace that Democrats would give him as many votes as a decent honest person like Joe Lieberman(during primaries). Do you guys know the things that Al Sharpton did in NYC? The lives he ruined, the crimes(deaths) he incited?

Are you serious??? Or is this a type of troll where you eventually go, "oh but charges were never actually filed" or it wasnt his fault DIRECTLY that that guy listened to him(standing right outside the store) and firebombed the shoe store and killed those people, or the mini riot he incited(sorta) but he played right into it over a freaking car accident. And to take the cake(that we know of anyway), Tawana Brawley.

Do you really not know his background? How he evolved from psuedo criminal/race rackets extorionist to scumbag to Jesse Jacksons heir apparant(even though Jesse cant stand him anymore). Well, in all fairness, he is ursurping Jessee Jackson's place + he cleaned himself up amazingly. Plus he talks great.

Definately a smart man. completely amoral(same can be said of most political figures), but he has (in my opinion) blood on his hands. And there was no DEBATABLE national interest behind this blood.

again, are you asking this because you really do not know or are you trying to pick a fight by saying that he was never convicted/he didnt know his actions would result in those things/he thought he was doing the right thing.

There are politicians who want to do right by groups that they feel are taken advantage of/victimized. And there are politicians who realize they can gain power by making groups feel that they are victimized. The former want to fix the problems, the latter know that they will be out of power if problems(real or imaginary) are solved. In my opinion, Sharpton falls into the latter.

They aren't posing, fools! They're stuck together! Unfortunately, they moved too close to eachother during a local debate, and bzzz....clang! Got stuck together like two magnets. This picture was taken just before they annihilated eachother in a sudden discharge of massive energy.

Didnt say you need to like his politics, but he is honest and decent. Not someone who plays on racial fears to amass personal power. Hell, even Gephart didnt do that much better than Sharpton.

You know - it is attitudes like that which destroy the incentives of people to clean themselves up. Because why bother if you are going to hold it against them anyway?

A guy from the streetscrawls up from the gutter to make a respectable life for himself and who fights to try and eliminate the gutter.... and you want to tell him: "No, you can't do that."

Mandela shouldn't have bothered either right? Nor should the senior members of the IRA traded in bombs for dialogue?

Besides - to be the President you HAVE to be willing to have blood on your hands. It goes with the job. And Al has been completely up front that he knew he had no chance, but felt that there was an urban population that needed to have a voice in the debate, and so he was trying to present it. That is hardly the position an "amoral politician who doesn't want a problem solved" acts.

Not saying I think Al would be a good President (although he would surely be entertaining!), just thinking that your position is the wrong reason to give for that assessment.

You see, our disagreements revolves around the statement "cleaned himself up"

When I used it I meant cleaned up his outward appearance to the world. He is still the same person, but has figured out that he can make more money/power by putting on a good image.

When you used it, I think you mean he has become a better person who wants to change behavior that he no longer agrees with.

Now, neither one of us can look into either his heart or his head. Given his self aggrandizing career(we are not talking about behaviour that stopped in his 20's) I tend to believe his new image is all smoke and mirrors.

He is entertaining though

BTW: I grew up in New York and have spent a good chunk of my life seeing the results of Sharpton's "crawling out of the gutter" making the local news. Shameful as it is to say, I was actually happy when he was stabbed. Unfortunately for New York he lived.

Oddly, I do have to say that I like him more today than ever before.

So, basically, you're willing to give Bush the benefit of the doubt when it comes to cleaning himself up, but you are not willing to give Sharpton the same treatment?

Bush made a career of boosting his political career by inciting racial tension that led to deaths? Bush was a borderline racketeer? News to me.

And once again, if I thought his "change" was sincere then I would be more than willing to forget his past.
