Question about US voting process.

I voted early over a week ago. I had to wait in line for over an hour. Co-workers who voted this past week reported waits of 2-3 hours. In previous elections, when almost everyone voted on election day, I have never had to wait for than 30 minutes. A few reasons were obvious to me. First of all, instead of a dozen or more curtained booths where we marked our punch cards, we now have 4 voting machines. Secondly, of the 4 machines, 2 were monopolized for over 25 minutes by voters who read every line of the ballot, even though printouts of the ballot were pasted everywhere. I had plenty of time while waiting in line to read the thing 4 times! Another problem was that the poll workers (average age 82) did not keep up with moving voters to machines as soon as they were vacated.

Any other ideas on the cause for these long waits and what could be done to correct them in the next election?

I didn't ask this question for fools to post idiotic remarks. Serious posts please. What should we do?

Good solution. Got any other "solutions" you'd like to try out?

I am sure we could come up with a .... final... solution.. for your ... issues. Would you mind if we clone our "mastermind" to work for us on this problem?

I just noticed that my post count is so fitting for this :P

The solutions, as you already said it, are pretty simple:
put up more voting machines, inform people of what they have to do before they stand in front of the machine and have competent people working there.
if they did all that, problem would be solved.
another thing they might want to change: if you do have to wait, they could offer cookies and snacks, so nobody would get upset for having to wait.

Heh. Are you really one of "those"? I thought you were just anti-US.

(Unless you're joking :))

Don't get me started on incompetent people working the polls in view of what happened here in Arkansas. As for the snacks, I noticed the poll workers had enough to send a diabetic screaming in the streets, but in view of the expanding width of my butt, I don't think everyone would applaud that idea. :(

i think its because no one expected to have this much early turnout for early voting so there jsut arent enough polling places and machines for the huge demand.

next time they will have double the number and half the turnout.

ive read reports where a majority of early voters are democratic. big change from the past. im hoping it indicates that the democrats are going to come out in huge numbers. not that that guarantees that they will vote for kerry but its a positive development in any case.

i'm so glad we can just mail in our votes. but then we don't get to elect any presidents. oh well, I can live with that ;)
And because of the snacks.. oh please, they're cookies, they're not that evil.... :p
