I downloaded it yesterday, and it's amazing. Here's the link, join the revolution! And you might want to get FreeBSD or Linux. But you have to get firefox, I've never seen anything like it. Here's the link:

I concur. I've been using it for quite while. Apparently with Service Pack 2 IE handles pop-ups the same way as Firefox now. Too late.

Linux still isn't practical enough for most people.

But, yeah, Firefox rules.

The AdBlock extension for Firebird is godly.

Banner at the top of the page? Gone.
Annoying flash ads with sound? Gone.
Iframes? Any image you'd rather not see again? Gone.

TAKE BACK THE WEB

Get Firefox

It does if you use the Avant Browser plugin. It makes IE tabbed, installs a popup blocker, etc.

Making an OS is easy. My god if I could do it obvisouly the thousands of Linux developers could. The microsoft source is probably a bunch of shit coded in javascript by three year old kids from thailand. And then the core of the OS was done by some guy off the street who should have sued Bill Gates but was too stupid too. If you don't like Linux try FreeBSD or another Unix variation. Non-propariaty of course. I'm actually porting Firefox to my OS once I get the C compiler up and running.

Does Firefox let you read newsfeeds like the Opera browser? Because I sure haven't found a way to do that in Firefox yet. Oh that's right, you have to download a DIFFERENT program called Thunderbird to get newsfeeds and email in the Firefox browser, whereas in Opera, this feature is built-in.

Does Firefox have a built-in IRC client like the Opera broswer? Because I'm fairly certain it takes an add-in for Firefox to have IRC. Opera comes with a built-in IRC client.

I have both Firefox and Opera. And I prefer Opera mainly because it comes in one download, where I don't have to download each function I want as a seperate add-in. Until Firefox comes as one complete package, I'm staying with Opera.

My Motto: Just because something is "new and improved", does not automatically make it better.

I've been using firefox for roughly two months, ever since I somehow got 90+ viruses through interntet explorer. In this time Firefox on the other hand has allowed 3 viruses through. And in my opinion, it's more spartan look is far superior to that of Internet Explorers luxury icons that you never use galore design.

What you want then is the Mozilla Suite.

Web-browser built for 2004, advanced e-mail and newsgroup client, IRC chat client, and HTML editing made simple -- all your Internet needs in one application.

But the Mozilla Suite is "old technology" per the mozilla site as it lists the "awards" it has won. Hence, newer isn't always better.

I'm sure that once Firefox is out of it's final beta stages here soon, they'll probably release a Firefox suite as well. Because the version of Firefox the link sends you to is version 1.0PR which is the "preview release" which to me says that it's not the gold standard release and there will still be some forthcoming improvements before they deem it a gold release.

...No.

Firefox is just the stripped down mozilla browser for everyone who doesn't want everything else.

Doesn't a beta release usually contain alot of bugs that they want the beta testers to help discover? Or have I always misunderstood the purpose of beta releases?

I have worked on webrowsers. The idea is to make them small, people think programs should be massive with millions of lines of code. Sometimes they should.

My OS tells alot about my politics. It is an exokernel, IE it gives applications their rights. And it provides them with alot of VM. But sometimes it has to take from the applications for system sanity. It gives rights to those it deems responsible. I should have named it LF OS

Browser war, yeah! *waves the Konqueror flag* I prefer Knoqui but mostly because it works so well both as browser and as file manager. If it could make coffee, Konqueror would be perfect ;)

I've used Mozilla since 1.4, and Firefox since 0.6. Couldn't do without.

Now for an alternatve OS... I'm thinking Red Hat or that other beginner-linux.

Unless you're being deeply sarcastic, you've got your symbols the wrong way round. In English, you've just told us that Mozilla is less than Microsoft, less than every other company and less than my skinny ass.

I don't know, maybe you haven't got them the wrong way round...

By the way, for any one interested in linux, here are some links to popular distributions:

SuSE (http://www.suse.com/us/)
Mandrake (http://www.mandrakelinux.com/)
Debian (http://www.debian.org/)
Fedora (http://fedora.redhat.com/)

(There are of course far more, Google "linux" if you don't like any of those)

Safari uses KHTML, the same rendering engine as Konqueror. Excellent, isn't it?

I'm totally in love with Konqueror - I like being able to browse my files and the internet with the same program, but all the security problems with IE means I can't do that on Windows. Konqueror is how IE, and all other (file and web) browsers should be.

As reguards KDE itself, I prefer IceWM, but for user-friendliness you can't really beat KDE - I just like IceWM for sheer speed and geek-factor.

Or go to FreeBSD, NetBSD, OpenBSD, or Darwin. Or you could use the Mach and make your own.
