The Red Sox won the world series after drying their eyes for eighty six years in a row. I didn't think they would or could do it this year. After game three of the american league championship series when they were down three games to none in the best of seven against the hated Yankees I turned to my wife and said that if the Red Sox win the world series I will quit drinking for a year. It was an offhand promise that I never thought that I would have to honour.
I am now one very dry, very happy Red Sox fan.
Every time I want a beer to relax after a hard day at work I just think of the feeling I get knowing that my favourite baseball team finally won the big one after all those years of heartbreak.
Yeah, I know too that pro sports, like religion, are opiate for the masses.
But Dylan said you gotta serve somebody.
If the Red Sox can win a world series than anything is possible.
