And why? I pick George Harrison becase I like his post Beatle guitar technique, messages, and because he is George Harrison.

I'm also partial to George...He aged best...I know, John didn't get much of a chance to age...I still gotta go with George.

I would have to pick Paul McCartney.
I gotta go with Ringo purely because of his name. Richard Starkey. He goes from Richard freaking Starkey to Ringo Starr, and he does it quite seamlessly, too. Many people don't even know Ringo isn't his real name. I think that shows real talent.

Beetle Bailey
Pete Best was the drummer before Ringo was added, he was booted because (when the producers wanted to change the Beatles image before they hit it big) he refused to change his hairstyle to match the new look.
Stuart Sutcliffe......I actually can't remember his position in the band but he died of a brain hemmhorage before the big hit.

Ironically enough, he later went on to work as a careers advisor.

Bassist, as was Chas Newby.

So what did Paul do at that time? Third guitarist? Or were Sutcliffe and Newby before Geroge Harrison?

Three guitar lineup - McCartney only switched to fulltime bass playing when they became a four piece, IIRC... hang on... aha - here's a rough outline of the different incarnations:

I'd have to go with him too, when it comes down to it. Given that so far the Beatles have been dying in the wrong order I reckon Ringo is next to pop his clogs, and McCartney might just live for ever and never give us peace from his chirpy upbeat noodlings.

John Lennon hands down!
I think Lennon was a better songwriter, but Harrison was a better musician. I'm saying Harrison.
Edited to add my Who/Beatles conspiracy.
Deceased members of the Beatles: John Lennon, guitarist; George Harrison, guitarist.
Deceased members of the Who: John Entwistle, bassist; Keith Moon, drummer.
(Okay, the deceased ones don't really matter for the conspiracy)
Surviving members of the Beatles: Paul McCartney, bassist; Ringo Starr, drummer
Surviving members of the Who: Roger Daltry, vocalist; Peter Townsend, guitarist.
You can make a band from the surviving members of both bands

"Beatle" != "Beetle"
John Lennon!!!
He had the best individual work, looked the best, and started the band that became the Beatles thus making him somewhat the original Beatle. Plus, I've walked down the sidewalk where he was assassinated at age 40. You can't do that without starting to like the guy.

John Lennon on the basis of this song:
As soon as you’re born they make you feel small
By giving you no time instead of it all
Till the pain is so big you feel nothing at all
A working class hero is something to be
A working class hero is something to be
They hurt you at home and they hit you at school
They hate you if you’re clever and they despise a fool
Till you’re so fucking crazy you can’t follow their rules
A working class hero is something to be
A working class hero is something to be
When they’ve tortured and scared you for twenty odd years
Then they expect you to pick a career
When you can’t really function you’re so full of fear
A working class hero is something to be
A working class hero is something to be
Keep you doped with religion and sex and tv
And you think you’re so clever and classless and free
But you’re still fucking peasants as far as I can see
A working class hero is something to be
A working class hero is something to be
There’s room at the top they are telling you still
But first you must learn how to smile as you kill
If you want to be like the folks on the hill
A working class hero is something to be
A working class hero is something to be
If you want to be a hero well just follow me
If you want to be a hero well just follow me

Paul McCartney.
He was the better all around musician.
McCartney's tastes after the beatles ran pretty tame, but he had the better solo career (Wings), and simply wrote better music afterwards.
John Lennons solo music sucks.
John and Paul's songwriting were gold, and Harrison had some very cool songs as well.

The Beatles would have broken up with Yoko, or without her.
Yoko just accelerated the process.

The list goes on... Paul never had that many solo hits ever! Besides, John Lennon believed in some thing besides making money. Lennon is an icon. He will go down in history as the most prolific Beatle and the most beloved.
However, I did hate Yoko Ono and still do!

Stuart Sutcliffe......I actually can't remember his position in the band but he died of a brain hemmhorage before the big hit.
He actually died after the Beatles hit it big, but he left the band before to stay in Germany and pursue his other artisitic inspirations.
The brain hemorrage was consequence of having his butt (and head) kicked for messing around with another guy's girlfriend. Pretty much how Bowie lost his eye.

I'd have to say Ringo because he was just so easy going and never seemed to give a sh** about anything. He was also the first one to have a car.
