Terrorist attack and US elections

What are the chances of an attack occuring or at least being attempted by al-Qaeda.

I say very likely. I've read a large amount of books on how terrorist groups work. They try and make political messages with their attacks. Killing people is just a way to make the message stick. My bet is that sleeper cells that have benn operating here for about a decade have probably been told to attack by the release of the bin Laden tape. There is a history here of attacking nations during elections. 3/11 is the most recent case of it.

What do you think?

I was calculating that they would target Yankee stadion on game 3 of the world series

I don't think it's likely. It would have happened by now. I didn't think it would happen in March, either.

Unfortunetly, I think the red sox parade might be a good target.

Given the political climate, and their aims of getting Americans to re-elect Bush out of fear, I can only hope they do not try something.

I have a friend who is a Yankees fan and wants that to happen.

Well seriously, I think it will happen. They will at least try something. The timing of the video seems to be a message to the sleeper cells.

more likely after the election

I think that an attack of some sort will be attempted in the next few days. I don't necessarily believe that the attack will happen on US soil though...

I doubt it. Heavily.

An attack before the election would be slick, but it's unlikely...though if one did happen that could disrupt the election, would it still go on?

Hmmm... good question. Probably depend. Imagaine if al-Qaeda managed to actually kill Bush or something like that, I suspect that would cause major damage and I don't see how the election would continue.

I think the real question is: if there was an attack...how would it be interpeted?

People will be split as to weither or not they're trying to scare us into voting for Kerry or Bush xD

Highly unlikely.

Its a certainty that Amercia will be attacked by terrorists in the future.
Nothing can stop that now. In fact, Bush's unwarranted attack on Iraq has made it even morer likely than before.

Make no mistake, it will happen again.

Its a question of when.

if al-qadia attacked it would be intresting to see both bush and kerry get killed. i mean what would america do if both canidates just died? would both there right hand men be forced into the next election? i was thinking about this for a while and it would be a intresting way of screawing the american government.

Then the election would be between Cheney and Edwards.

Instead of Cheney and Kerry.

I would expect that you only hope they do not try something no matter what the conditions!

Under the Patriot Act, that makes you a potential terrorist. Whose side are you on?

Nothing is impossible, but it is extremely unlikely. THe whole idea is just a clever ploy by Karl Rove and the well-oiled Repeblican spin/scare/terrorization/lie/cheat/supress/opress/etc. machine.

I agree with you, although I think it will happen shortly after the elections if things are chaotic like they were in 2000. I think they're ready to go, but holding off to see what will happen. (I hope I'm wrong, however, and they never attack again...)

What do terrorists need to attack the elections for? If it is anything like 2000 then the terrorists can sit back and laugh at us for not getting an election right. We don't need any help to screw this up.
