Everyone loves 'em, though they actually are the bad guys. Or lasses. Young and old. Everyone could be a pirate!

In America, we have an unofficial "Talk Like a Pirate Day." I think this goes to show that this truly is the greatest nation ever.

And another interesting question.

Is it:
1) "Arrrr!"
2) "Argh!"
3) "Hargh!"
4) "Harrr!"
?

If you have ever heard of the Goon Show, then you might know that pirates actually say

Crew: "Yarrrrr we don't want no sailing the sevens seas, going where we want and doing what we want!!!!"

Captain: "What do ya want then?"

Crew: "We wants....*pause*....A TRAINING DAY!!!"

Captain: "A training day?!?!"

Crew: "Yes a training day, with proper cutlass use and how to invest the gold we robbed properly."

Its not the actual word for word script, but it went pretty much the same as that. genius :D

Uhh, yeah we did. They sailed in the sea to the south that goes by the name the Caribbean. In fact, most notions of pirates come from that area. These pirates were known to go along the eastern seaboard in the early stages of America.

We even have pirates in modern times, though they are not as cool. They mostly attack travellers in the sea with AK-47s.

Yes, back in the days when England and France and Spain colonised the world and there was no such thing as America.

A lot of piracy on the westen African coast too by the way

Yeah, I remember reading about the African coasts ones. Forgot what they were called. May have started with a "C".

As for modern piracy, the booty is just not the same anymore. I guess you can get some rich guys cash or some mp3s...

Sorry to burst your bubble, but I frankly doubt contemporaries found it "cool" that pirates shot their ships to splinters with cannons, either.

You're really all in love with a historically false, romanticized hollywood image.

I think a lot of people are and that is why this thread was posted. I am sure we all know what pirates really did. But people like the hollywood image of them. Kind of like ninjas.

September 19 - INTERNATIONAL Talk Like A Pirate Day.

Note, INTERNATIONAL

This has been a public service announcement for the benefit of informing the ill informed, thankyou, that is all.

PS, bloody pirates killed Sir Peter Blake in Brazil, but if Johnny Depp found himself without a pirate wench I'd be there in a heartbeat, romanticisation or nay
