Vinegar.

Whenever I used to travel in the States and I felt like stopping somewhere for a burger and fries, I'd always end up coming back to the checkout counter and asking where they kept their vinegar.
Most times, I'd be met with an incredulous stare, and the drone behind the counter would say something like, 'Are you from the Health Department?' or they'd ask what on Earth I wanted vinegar for.
More often than not, they didn't believe me when I told them I wanted some vinegar to put on my fries. Sometimes, they wouldn't let me have any. Usually, they'd have to go dig some 4-gallon jug of the stuff from their janitorial closet just to give me a small paper cupfull. Why would I want to do something like that to my fries, they'd ask - we use this stuff to mop the floors with!
A few times, the staff would stand there giggling as I'd pour it gingerly over my fries and begin to tuck in, or even let out a chorus of sickened groans as I *gasp* actually ate my fries.
So, whaddaya think? Is vinegar a condiment, or a floor-cleaning agent?

Nathan's hot dog's (the restaurants) have vinegar for the fries. Also they use real potato.

I often a time enjoyed it on my fries...nothing wrong with it. Some people fear change, haha. ;)
Its just a stupid cultural difference. ive never tried vinegar on fries, but seeing as how salt and vinegar potato chips (or "crisps" if your britishly inclined) are mighty tasty i could see the appeal.

I like vinegar on chips (they are just like fries in case you are foreign) but nothing beats Lea & Perrins, Yum.

Curry sauce, in my opinion, is the key.

Curry catsup is the worlds best french fry condiment. I had it in Belgium while visiting an ex-girlfriend and have mad to make it myself in the States ever since.

Hang on, are you telling me people actually clean their floors with vinegar? WTF?! Ok baking soda I understand, but vinegar...what next, cleaning the windows with tomatoe sauce (ketchup)? ;)

A woman that used to live next to my parents used ketchup to shine her pennies.

Well, I did get caught short of bleach one day while cleaning my own floors, so I decided to give vinegar a try, and- yeah, it worked...but it just made me salivate.

malt vinegar is wonderful on fries, and worcestershire sauce is wonderful on anything.

Your joking; wouldnt that would have left her with nothing to clean the windows with...? ;)

Don't be silly. She used the vinegar on the windows.

salt and vinegar are lovely on fries.
However, when I was in the UK, I asked for onion on a burger, and they gave me a funny look. THEN they fried the onions. That ruins them. They're supposed to be raw, so that they have bite.
*sigh*
If you think the vinegar got you a funny look, try asking for a gherkin.

French fries. Are you really this dense?

Er, I must be, because now I cant help wondering, if she cleaned her pennies with ketchup, her windows with vinegar and her floor with french fries, what'd she have for dinner?

I'd work under the assumption that whatever it was, it probably used to go, 'moo' and ate the front lawn for breakfast.
Well viengar is really the only thing I trust to clean my coffee maker with, fairly benign and actually pretty effective at removing the stains. As for French Fries, nonsense the only thing to use is either mayonaise or gravy as a condiment. Not that vinegar isn't a condiment, but it should go with fried fish not fried potatoes. The malt vinegar is excellent.
