I've only checked out this forum for about a day and I have already seen about three of four anti-French comments. I simply can not understand why they are so hated and so often made fun of. So I'm wondering, when you (peeps on the forum) rip on them is it just good-natured joking or do you really hold some animosity towards them? Can someone clue me into the motivation ‘cause I really am very curious....

I rather like the French. People say they're ball-less cause they wouldn't attack Iraq when we told them too. Nah, THAT takes some balls, going against America.

The French are usually rude, arrogant and they think theyre so superior, though theyre not.

I always thought it was because of their surrender in world war 2, after which they gained a reputation as really bad warriors despite quite the opposite.

Even though out of all the nations Germany used the blitzkreig against, France took the longest to fall. And they took back many of their cities before the U.S. reached them. It's rather odd.

The French assured our independence in the American Revolution. Gave us the Statue of Liberty. Make great wine. Fine culture, history and their food for those who like it.

Oh, and France is one of the few countries with nuclear weapons. Be nice!

I don't really have much of a problem with France. They're not any worse than the US, really.

My position exactly. And so, I make fun of them equally. And the french actually can kick ass. Its just that they havent bothered...to busy with cultural advanments.

There are really two main reasons the French are made fun, both of which have already been touched upon.

1) They act supercilious, and rude. In general if you travel to France, the French will treat you like crap. Try going to Denmark, Britain, or Germany, and you'll meet kind, generous, and outgoing people.

2) They have gained a reputation as poor fighters. This is not completely true, but they got the crap kicked out of them in WW2, and surrendered only weeks after being invaded. They were supposed to be a bulwark against German aggression and held out about as long as Belgium. Many then decided to join the Germans.

Years later, they again got whipped, but this time by their own colonies. The battle of Dien Ben Phu(sp?) essentially booted the French out of Asia, when France was considered a powerful country.

I think the first one is the bigger problem. Being rude just tends to piss people off, and remind them of past wrong and events that are unfavorable to the subject.

The French are good for the French. But yes, they do tend to be snotty to travelers. I havent had that problem because I look French, speak French, and give any Frenchman who snubs me a good smite in the mouth.

In this forum there is relentless blasting of French people. I can understand you neocon sycophants hating the French government for not going with Saint Bush on Iraq. But why do you extend your hatred to the entire nation and people of France. I can't tell you how many times I've seen "I just hate the French" and "I'm boycotting everything French". How is this mature?

You'd think that the French people had dropped an atomic bomb on Washington from the way you Bush loyalists act. What have you got against the French people? Sure, most of them were anti-war, but that goes for everyone, even your ally Britain.

So was a sizable chunk of the US. And they're not mocked nearly as much.

Americans hate France because France said going into Iraq qas a bad idea, and were right.

Well, ok. Americans hate France because the US said going into Iraq was a good idea and was wrong.

And the consensus appears to be that people hate the French because they remind them of Americans. Excellent. And now, I will lock this topic.
