A friend gave me a link to this eBaum's video:

He found it hilarious. I didn't. Anyway, do you really believe.. I mean.. do you "really" believe... do you "really, REALLY" believe a similar scenario (albeit not one as obvious) could happen this year?..

I have heard several friends saying that the owner of the company that creates the polling machines once said he'll do anything to guarantee a second term for Bush. Could such a fiasco occur in the "land of the free"?.. If you believe it could.. maybe, does that justify international demands that the November 2nd American elections be monitored by international observers?

Or should the world community just f*** off and let America do its thing.. even if Bush cheats and transforms the US into a dictatorship one day?

The last viewpoint raises another interesting point: If Americans want the international community to mind its own business... shouldn't America mind its own business when it comes to international affairs? Would a return to isolationism be favorable for America? (God knows it would be welcome in every other part of the world!) :p

Okay, now that was funny as hell.

On a more serious note, I do believe that there should be monitors in place to make sure the election is fair. Though I don't think Bush himself is behind any schemes to win the presidency, I sure as hell think other people are. On both sides of the fence (meaning Republican and Democrat). Even if Kerry loses (which I hope doesn't happen)I want it to be a fair election.

Jeb Bush is gonna start using Darleks so that if a form comes through with a cross by Kerry then... well we all know what'll happen.

The link above is to an article written by former USA President Jimmy Carter. The gist of it is that the Florida election process should be highly scrutinized by international observers, but he also believes that it can not be truly brought under scrutiny due to the widespread favoritism for GWB within the people who are responsible for the fairness of the elections.

As a citizen of several countries that are not the USA, I believe that if the USA can reserve the right to involve itself in the politics of other sovereign nations, it should allow itself (but will not, I am sure) to have international observers present during elections.

You share my point of view.
