I love how Williams' summation describes how the Democrats are so terrible at this kind of stuff while completely ignoring the fact that the country is in the fiscal crisis it's in largely thanks to a republican controlled Congress and executive branch. Should I be shocked?

The Argentina style economic meltdown we're looking at if we don't get our balance sheet in order--that's what fiscal crisis. If it weren't for the fact that the dollar still carries some weight in the world, no one would touch our bonds, and current indications are that due to our profligate spending practices, the countries that have carried our debt in the past are starting to ask for a premium to continue to do so. The only reason it hasn't happened yet is because there's a belief that because we're the US, we'll eventually get our house in order, but if that rep ever starts to crumble, we're in a world of shit.

did you even look at the link I provided? see how low our interest payments are as a percentage of gdp. How about how the deficit is not that significant historically as a percentage of gdp. The only thing that is even slightly higher than acceptable is national debt. That isnt even such a factor because debtservice is so low. You are supposed to borrow more when interest rates are low.

Should I be shocked?Well it's an accurate summary of the original site: :http://www.lerner.udel.edu/econ-e/

Note however that the disclaimer on the site "Economic efficiency is an important criterion used by economists, but not the only criterion, when assessing the desirability of public policies." Also note that the Economic E score represented does not directly reflect gvernmental spending, but only the economic climate of the country (national economy as opposed to national finances). It further only represents the last two congresses, data only being presented since 2001.

I think we got to take some advice from green peace

Lets chain ourselves to a few politicians … that could stop some destruction

(note if you don’t get it think of the chaining self to tree to stop destruction of trees incident)

Quite a few threads I've seen have suggested electing Homer Simpson. Perhaps going that route will halt all debates on the evils of Kerry and Bush.

Much as I like Homer as a person, I don't think I want him diverting funds from education to give everyone free beer. Even Kerry/Bush (whichever you dislike most) is better than that. Heck, Nader would probably be better than that.

Nader would be great in one sense. He wouldnt sign any bill passed by either Repunlicans or Dems. And they wont pass anything remotely resembling what he would sign. In 4 years we would see tons of worthless govt pork shrivel and die(with only the most needed spending passing). Then maybe they could focus on spending efficiently.
