Do you feel that this law applies to many of the threads here and in other large forums?

I think it certainly does. Run a forum search for 'Nazi' and find how many times it has been used off topic.

Better question, why is the true? (or how do you feel it is false?)

If we used Godwin's Law in this forum, the conservatives would win every debate even though the liberals may have had a better argument. Just because one ignorant liberal implies that Republicans are Nazis should not dictate victory. The same could be said about communists.

I particularily liked this one:
Meldrum's Corollary:
As a drawn-out online argument grows longer, the probability of someone picking up on typos or punctuation errors in order to score points approaches one.
followed by:
Gaudere's Law:
Any post made to point out a spelling or grammar error will invariably contain a spelling or grammar error.

Lord knows we've seen this occur plenty of times.

I have thought about my own theory of internet discussions. I think I will call "El Bandito's Law" because I am self-centered.

If a poster makes a thread of post in which he or she intended irony, sarcasm, or humor of a sort, at least one fellow poster will not get the joke. The second poster will call the former poster a moron, nazi, rascist, or other demeaning term.

Freiler's Maxim:
Those that incorrectly invoke Godwin as proof that they have won the debate have in fact run out of relevant points to make, and have, by invoking Godwin, admitted defeat.

I like this one.

I've seen a corollary that says if one person uses it, but it is obviously out of context - that particular person is simply flaming and should be ignored. The debate, however, can go on.

Actually, the odd part is that Godwin just made this observation that someone will mention Nazis in a long thread. He didn't imply anything about that thread or it's posters. The assumption that invoking Godwin's Law is defeat only lends itself to the concept that we hate being slaves of sociology.

It's all fun.

I particularly like this post because you chose to point out the miscapitalization non-mistake rather than the use of the word "particularily."
