Bush met with Philadelphia Cardinal Justin Rigali in "private"

I wonder what they talked about?
I wonder why reporters were not allowed in?

This happened Thursday in Downingtown, PA. A very local weekly reported that,
"the two leaders met in private in the rectory dining room."
and
"The Archdiocese of Philadelphia said in a press release that the meeting was requested by the president . . . The church said that because the meeting was private it would not release details of the men's discussions."

A few papers glossed over it. It just sounds pretty shady to me.

Actually Robertsons is against Bush now.
Pat said Bush told him there would be no casualties in Iraq, Pat said are you sure about that, and Bush said yes.
Now republicans are trying to smear Pat hurting Bushes base with Christians.

So Bush is just making sure he gets a few religious votes since he hurt his Christian right vote.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. A lot of fundamentalist preachers call the Catholic Church, "The Great Whore of Babylon" (Revelations 17).
Since Bush is from the same evangelical, "born-again" variety, I would think that speaking with a Cardinal would equate to speaking with Satan himself.
I guess you gotta do what you gotta do to win an election, even sell your soul to the Devil!
It read somewhere that Bush lost PA to Gore by 4 points and that whatever the actuall numbers were equated to the same amount of Catholics who voted Gore. He thinks he'll win if he can sway those Catholics back to his side.

And Saint Attila raised the hand grenade up on high, saying, 'O Lord, bless this Thy hand grenade that, with it, Thou mayest blow Thine enemies to tiny bits in Thy mercy.' And the Lord did grin, and the people did feast upon the lambs and sloths and carp and anchovies and orangutans and breakfast cereals and fruit bats...

Something I increasingly notice, is the wedge conservatives are trying to drive through liberals regarding religion. Catholics used to be a dependable Democrat group, now they are split 50-50. Jewish people too are defecting to the Republican Party. Southern blacks, many of them raised with very conservative values, are also leaving the Democrat Party in droves. Hence the GOP's current fascination with banning gay marriage. At the same time, the moderates, fiscal conservatives, small government types and Libertarians are ditching the GOP for the Democrat Party. It will be interesting seeing where this goes in the future. The GOP may just turn into the one vast religious party of America, with the Democrats representing everyone else. That's too bad, the Republicans used to at least stand for something admirable, but now they're being overwhelmed by the neocons and bible-thumpers. When your primary support comes from the South and Rocky Mountain/plains states, that just may be unavoidable. :(

There are SO many jokes about what a Catholic official might be doing alone in a closed room with another man.
