Election Day Request

With the American presidential election one week away, I'd like to make a request to all the NationState members. One thing that really irks me every election day is the up-to-the-minute reporting on the election results. It's just not necessary, and I believe it influences the actual election. There shouldn't be ANY reporting until every single state's polls have closed.
And, so I ask every member here turn off any channel or news program that begins to air election results before Nov 3rd.
I'm a weak man, cant resist.

Well just to ruin it:
With zero percent of the polls reporting, I am now in a position to declare George Bush the winner.
Election is over.

I agree. I will not pay atttention to any of it until the Supreme Court decides on January 19th, by a vote of 6 - 3 (cause Reinquist might kick it by then and a Bush appointee will by rushed in through Congress at 3am on December 25th) that Bush will continue to be God's appointee for not only the next four years, but indefinitely as Article XXII of the Bill of Rights will concurrently be stricken from the record. Agreed. Voting is futile.

well maybe it's that attitude amongst non-republicans which makes such a result inevitable?
just a thought....

It isn't like we all have a Nelson Box on our televisions.

What is this TV thing you speak of? Oh, you mean that glowing box that I would have to walk upstairs to watch? I voted already and agree that I will wait until the Supreme Court decides or St Peter comes down. We just need an idiot up in the White House anyway according to Bill Maher.

I'm sufficiently worried about fraud that I want to see this thing unfold as it happens. I do agree that calling a state or even discussing exit polls should wait until a state's polls are completely closed, even though the idea that Florida was as close as it was because Republicans in the panhandle went home instead of voting is ludicrous, but other than that, if we can get accurate returns on election night, I want to see them.
To be fair, however, I'll probably be watching online instead of on tv.

Well... I'll wait until late night to turn it on. (Besides, you think they'll have things finished by the third? Hell, may as well turn off the news until December :p )
6-3? In Bush v. Gore, Rehnquist voted in favor of Bush.

He didn't vote in "favor" of Bush. He just voted to not hear the case. There were multiple recounts. Gore had lost all of them. The New York Times admitted that Gore out of 20 or so recounts may have won 2-3 of them.

I got an idea! On Election night lets all play the drinking game. The words are "Bush" "Kerry" "Republicans" and "Democrats" When someone say any of these four words, we'll all take a drink of our cool German beer! Man we'll be so drunk we won't care who won!

I think that attitude holds for most American citizens, not just non-republicans. Quite frankly, it is that same attitude that causes people to not vote. That and the fact that registering to vote can be a real pain in the ass (I should know my local governement fucked up and apparently I wasn't technically registered because somne idoit lost my signatures, though I had regietered oh about 13 months before). It could also be that people have a hard time making it to the polls, which is way they should make the first Tuesday a national holiday so people can get the day off and vote.

What would happen if someone wasn't very keen on any candidate but were to put a big cross by the candidate that they didn't want to win?
