Did you fall out of your chair and split your head open?

Or do you mean "figuratively"?

If you are literally in stitches, then that means you REALLY DID get stitches.

Of all the misued words in the English language, this one really annoys me. I don't play the part of Grammar Nazi often, but you people gotta learn somehow.

That was pretty sweet. You see that new ballot in ohio? http://www.electoral-vote.com/images/ohio-butterfly.jpg

The colors were added to show which squares really correspond to which candidate. It's amazing how they manage to fudge up something as easy as a stupid ballot.

Where I come from we used ballots like that for years without any problems, they're pretty standard.

Chill out, hon. Any dictionary will list an idiom under the entry for "stitches", telling us that it is also used for "laughing uncontrollably" - since I was indeed laughing uncontrollably, I used the word literally to underscore the idea that it was not a mere passing chuckle, as your standard "lol" would usually imply. There's no need to imply that I have a poor grasp on the English language, because that is in fact, not at all true.

If you are literally in stitches, then that means you REALLY DID get stitches.Over here in the UK, "A stitch" is when you get a pain in your side from exertion or laughing too much. Being "In stitches" is nothing to do with surgery.
