So essentially they're saying that a one-atom thick object is two-dimensional? Did these folks not recieve basic math instruction?
well, it's as close to 2-D as something in our reality can be and still be matter.

Admittedly. And while it is a fascinating development, that they get away with refering to it as 2-dimensional is a bit alarming.

There is a weird physics thing about electrons being points of inderminable speed and location. I agree that it seems a bit dodgy, but I'm not gonna dismiss it out of hand.

That's cooler.
But back on the subject: That is weird. Very much so.

Now what bloody use would that be then??

Anyone remember that lycopodium (-sp?) powder experiment with the oild drop. That was some pretty cool stuff.

D'ya wanna explain that one briefly?
Now what bloody use would that be then??
Give it to the person you most hate as a birthday present.
Duh!

Yah, you take an oil drop on a wire and measure its radius. Then you take a big tank of water and dust the top of it with lycopodium powder. Now here's the cool bit. You drop the oil on the water and it spreads out to its maximum size making, if you will, a big circle in the water. Given that volume of the oil drop, you can now figure out the "length" of a molecule. (molecules being spherical and all - haha). Anyway it won a nobel prize.

Indeed. That's what this makes easier.
