Hey, have a heart. You'd freak out if you crashed your Jeep in a river, too.

Nah, I would roll the window down and swim out.....

Hmm before I'd drown, I think I'd at least try to open the door or crash/lower the windows or something.

But really, do you think that you can be so panicked that you can't press out 9-1-1? Even on a small cell phone, I am sure I'd be able to dial it out.

If it was that easy, people wouldn't drown in cars.

People panic....

Our bodies will float naturally if you are relaxed. When you panic your muscles become tight and that creates negative bouyancy and you sink.

You do realize that under pressure, this isn't possible. The only way to get out yourself is to not panic and:

(a) If the windows were down already, wait for the entire vehicle to fill up with water, kick the windows out and swim free.

(b) If the windows were up, wait for one of them to shatter under the pressure, let the entire vehicle fill with water, and swim free.

Of course, both hinge on staying relatively calm.

Yes, I realize that. I taught pilots how to escape from ditched aircraft for years. A car is much easier.

Aside from that being a moot point in this case as they were in the car, hence lack of floating period-

Do you not know what sympathy is? Christ, they're dead.

How about not driving into a river in the first place? Well over ninety percent of the time when people 'lose control' of their vehicle they are doing something stupid, ever see those stories on the news where a car ploughs into pedestrians or into a starbucks because the person 'lost control' when they accidentally stomped the accelerator instead of the breaks?

I'm not the best driver, but I've never lost control of my vehicle. Then again I won't answer my cell phone while driving, I won't shave, or screw with the radio etc. How about people just get into their cars and concentrate on driving?
