Who would make a better first lady?

I know that this will probably follow party lines, but we'll give it a try. First Ladies often have styles of their own. Elanor Roosevelt, for example, was the first real activist First Lady. Mamie Eisenhower seemed to reflect her time as a very good homemaker. Everyone knows about Jacky O.
Here, we have two different styles of First Ladies. Laura Bush seems to hearken back to Nancy Reagan: fashionable, feminine, and sometimes getting involved in politics. She has been known as the "Comforter in Chief". Teresa Heinz Kerry is vastly different. Only the second woman of foreign birth to possibly be First Lady, she is very European in appearance and style. She is very outspoken, and sometimes brash about it. I'm not exactly saying this is as a negative, just that she is very different from the past First Ladies. Your thoughs on this are welcome.

I actually prefer Laura Bush simply because Teresa is a little too out spoken for me. When it comes to their husbands though, it's the opposite.

Well, Teresa Heinz may have the good looks of Elanor Roosevelt and the humility of Jackie O, but I'll still have to go with Laura Bush.

Good, so it's not party based (at least not entirely). I said Laura myself. It's not that Teresa is outspoken that I don't like, but she comes across as very brazen and sometimes audacious. But that's just me.

Teresa claiming 'school teacher' as NOT a real job, pretty much set the tone for my answer.

I personally love THK, but never hear much of anything about Laura, except recently when it's getting close to the election. I like a First Lady with an attitude ;)

She was around a lot right after the Sept. 11 attacks.
*Edit* So you're a fellow Rochestarian, like myself. Sweet. I never see them on these fora. You don't have to give me a specific town name, but do you live on the East side or West side?

Well, considering John has a history of marrying up, I suspect he will dump THK at some point and marry Famke Janssen.

That would be one kickass First Lady.

Don't care. Don't care. Don't care. I'm electing a President, not a First Lady. What Theresa Heinz Kerry or Laura Bush do or say has absolutely nothing to do with who I'm voting for, and if it does make a difference for someone, that person is an idiot.

The sick part is, she knew Laura Bush had raised twins, through campaigns and moves, etc. THAT's a job whether she had ever been a teacher or librarian or not..

You just love mudslinging with the guys, don't you? Aren't they getting a bit boring? I mean, you got two rich stiffs from Yale. One has a lemon for a head, and the other has the hair like the Andes Mountains. Don't they get a bit boring to poke fun at?

Teresa will be lots of fun. Like Margaret Trudeau, she'll give the media something to yammer about. That way they won't have to pretend they known anything they don't, such as about economics or policy.

ya but she was born in mozambique, her father was portuguese, she went to college in mozambique and geneva, switzerland and moved to the US when she married john heinz. why should she have a german accent?

i LIKE laura bush better but she isnt really cut out to be first lady since she is rather introverted. it cuts down on the kind of entertaining that we got with say nancy reagan. entertaining is the 1st lady's "job".

i assume that teresa kerry is more used to entertaining but she doesnt hold anything back so she may not be all that GOOD at it.

with any luck we'll soon find out if teresa does a better job than laura.

I like it when people present an argument, and back it up with facts, like UWF has done for us. I do wonder what real job Theresa's had.

Is that like how God hand picked Bush for president? Because as Bush is fast to point out, God is after all on your side. I think if there is a God, you better hope you're on his side! ;)

Ditto to that. It's a shame Teresa conveniently forgot that Laura was not only a teacher but a librarian and has taken education as her cause. From what I've seen on TV, I prefer Laura's humility and homeliness to Teresa's dominant and somewhat snobby gaffes. Laura just strikes me as a very sincere person whereas Teresa gives off a "I'm better than you because I'm Teresa Heintz" attitude. Both seem like okay people, but I just think Teresa is snobby, especially when you compare her to someone like Laura Bush.

I don't think there is a god, but that is a major difference from some snake oil salesman saying the crippled will walk if John Kerry is elected. So George Bush thinks god is on his side. Good for him. At least he doesn't defer to the far left cabal to make his decisions like Kerry and the shyster.

BTW, as we're all taking cheap shots, why not I? Teresa Heinz Kerry seems like the world's richest transsexual person. I mean, she's the first billionaire in the White House, and maybe even the first lesbian.

Uhh, yeah, he defers to the far right cabal to make his decisions. He's surely the ultimate "right-wing cronies" president. Ever.
