The Bush Record on Homeland Security

For all those who are leaning towards voting for Bush, particularly those who are voting that way because of the national security issue:

Are you aware that the Bush Administration is failing at keeping America safe? That many of the machines installed in the airports to sniff incoming luggage for bombs are non-functional. I just finished talking to a former airport security screener...one of the new federal employees that took over after 9-11 from the private security agencies. She is a dedicated Ohio Republican, but she's voting for John Kerry this election. She tells me that we are not safe, that airport security is not sufficient to the task of stopping another terrorist. She pointed out that federal security officers have, during the course of testing the new systems, managed to get through airport security carrying knives, guns, and simulated explosive devices (this has been reported on the national news several times). The Bush Administration's reforms are failing us, this woman said, and she wants to try and change things before it's too late. Hence, the urgency of her vote.

Worse yet, the Bush Administration has done -nothing- to seal off the U.S.-Mexico border, or the U.S.-Canada border. Thousands of Mexicans are pouring over that border. How easy would it be for a terrorist to blend in amongst them? In addition, the Bush Administration is not screening the people coming here from friendly nations, even though visitors from places like Syria and Iran ARE screened. How difficult would it be for a terrorist to take a flight to Germany and THEN to the United States to avoid a federal screening?

The Bush Administration has failed to stockpile sufficient pharmaceuticals to protect us in case of a terrorist biological attack, just as they failed to ensure an adequate supply of the flu vaccine for this winter. They've failed to capture Osama Bin Laden, they've failed to destroy Al-Qaida totally, and they've failed to destroy the Taliban in Afghanistan. They've failed to destroy the insurgency in Iraq. In fact, a Dayton Daily News article came out today that told us that Iraqi civilians have made 4,611 legal claims against the U.S. military for 437 wrongful deaths and 468 injuries. These are claims confirmed by the U.S. military. George W. Bush's latest rationale for the Iraq War is that we are "liberating" the Iraqi people. If so, we are liberating the hell out of them. We are liberating them from their mortal coil!

If this is "success", then I shudder to imagine what failure must be like. Bottom line: the President is unfit for the job. Time for a change. Vote for John Kerry!

If I were to choose one word to describe the Bush administration, it wouldn't be evil, like many would expect. It would be incompetent.

I live in a very conservative area of Ohio. I feel like I am the only man who can see in a crowd of blind people. Can Bush's supporters not SEE the same symptoms that I can? Can they not see the impending economic and international political disasters? Or do they simply not care?

they think its caused by super political kerry with his ability to overpower the entire of congress with a single vote and his buddy edwards with his vote. they like to pretend it doesnt happen or blame it on a democrat that couldnt have possibly of caused it. im surprised they havnt blamed the rise of saddam on kerry protesting the vietnam war

They're probably wondering how it is all going to be paid for.

It's called prioritizing. Do you want safer airplanes or do you want a tax cut for everyone making over $200,000 a year? I don't even fly very often and I know the answer to that one--and it would be the same answer even if I made over $200,000 a year. We can pay for whatever we need as long as we're willing to suck it up and do it.

I want safer airplanes, too. But I thought the tax reversal was going to pay for the healthcare plan. The one that gives every American the same one that a Congressperson gets. Or maybe the tax reversal was going to pay for the tax cut on 99% of businesses and 98% of Americans. Or expanding the military by 40,000 and increasing funding for military research.

maybe by not spending a billion a month and cutting taxes every couple months

All Kerry would need to do to not spend a billion a month would be to cut spending by about $2,307,100,000,000 and not implement any new programs.
