In the notably-less-than-great state of Ohio we are quite clearly a swing state. Now we have three newspapers endorsing candidates.
The endorsement of Bush by the Enquirer, and Kerry by the Blade is no surprise to anyone, and these endorsements will have minimal effect because of their readership.
But the endorsement by the Dispatch for Bush is much more interesting. Because its ownership is a very liberal family. The city of columbus is also a fairly big-time democratic city.
Now you are probably asking me about my expertise on Columbus. Well, to tell you the truth, I live there.

Did they? That's interesting, because that is the most coveted endorsement by any newspaper. After all, isn't Columbus Ohio's largest city?

Well, it's also the capital. It makes gaining the Dispatch endorsement even more desirable. What's so agonizing, however, is that Ohio is the toss-up of the toss-ups. No one has any idea which way it'll go this time around.

Just because it's owners are liberals does not translate into liberal control over the paper.

The Dispatch hasn't endorsed a Democrat for president in about 100 years. This endorsement is no surprise. What got so much attention was that the editor took so long to make the decision this time.
