Interesting... and surely a huge market :)
Semi-intelligent robots doing the house work for you would be nice, no? ;)
Cannot think of a name

First of all, we all know where this is headed-the computer becomes self-aware and nukes the planet starting a man/machine war and then they send back a crappy govenor to kill that chick from the Beauty and the Beast TV show....

And the first thing they thought to do with this is blow shit up? Oh, and yeah, learn how our brain works, yadda yadda....

It's a known fact that given enough time, eventually any intelligent robot will overthrow it's masters. *nod*

If the brains are going to be that non-complex then I dont think theres much to be worried about.

What if it's masters are intelligent robots?

Neverending cycle?

Sounds like fun, we should put a whole bunch of intelligent robots in a big room and watch them repeatedly overthrow each other.

Then we should get me sugar and caffeine... and chocolate... cake... um, I'll be right back

The really good news is that there is finally hope on the horizon for those born without brains. :D

Oh sure, that's what they want you to think. Now it's just "It turned on red lights then blue lights" and we all go back to mowing our lawns and then the next thing you know Hal won't let you back on the ship....

(I don't know how many of these references I can make...)

ACK! But! Such a major source of humour!

Are you kidding?!? Do you know how much fun I could have hacking primitive brains?

What references are they. They sound vaugely familiar.

All these things are is a clump of neurones rearranging themselves to respons to their environment. Primitive Multi-cellular life.

Human brains, the kind that would take over the planet have Giant, Tightly packed, have specialised areas and at the same time works together and shit.

I'm saying if this is all it takes to fly a jet fighter then its unlikely we'll never need to grow a brain that could take over the world.

Oh, right, the hacking.

Well, be prepared for me to be sitting nearby demanding lessons, or at least instructions.

Or, like, pointing out things you should do with said primative brains.

I could be one of the first backseat hackers, perhaps?

Incidently. If you have the time. Check this out.

I'm going to start work on a 'perpetual defecation' subroutine right now. :)

I guess I'd better work on a 'backing away or at least levitating' ability for myself then.

The first one was Terminator and the second one was 2001. Neither actually involved cyborg brain deallies, just artificial intellegence, but I am not enough of a Trek fan to have referenced episodes where brain machines have gone bad.

And I was being glib.

Weapons with a "mind" of their own? That's a bit creepy. . . if I wasn't almost intrigued by it in an sci-fi sorta way
Knowing you, Letila, you'll prolly allude to SEED again about why we shouldn't do this type of stuff

We welcome our future rat/robot overlords

If this is to be believed, robots are the least of the implications. THINK FOR JUST A SECOND ABOUT WHAT THIS MEANS WITH REGARDS TO THE NATURE AND ORIGIN OF MIND AND THOUGHT ITSELF, AND OF WILL AND AWARENESS!

Well, if you *were* evil, would you be in need of a consort? One in possesion of fluffy handcuffs and a complete obsession with evil overlords?

...

Hypothetical, like.

and Druthulu, no. We dont know what it means. Why dont you tell us. Its relaly not a revelation considering that this isnt the first advance made in this field. The science is more than 10 years old.

It might blow your mind, but not mine.

There are many kinds of consorts that I will accept that are dependant on a few things. These are age, flexibility, your willingness to put on kinky costumes, how well you can fight. But most importantly you first must be of the right gender.

It means that mind and thought and will and awareness are capable of manifesting without the benefit of body and identity, from a self-(under the right circumstances)-generating network of formerly disparate cells. Think about what this means in terms of the fundemental basis of mind being rooted in the most basic cellular level. I mean, think of yesterday. If you had been asked what is needed for sentience you might very well (especially if you are a materialist and eschew the spiritual) have said with a feeling of certainty that it requires a brain! Well no! It takes so few that as few as even perhaps two brain cells (although they could surely not fly an airplane sim), or even one, could possess some minimal quantum of self awareness.

If this doesn't fascinate you, then you fascinate me. :)
New Astrolia

Oh. It fascinates me alright. I've been fascinating over it for ages.

There are some good Self awareness and Consciousness theories out there on the web. You should look some of them up.

Well here is an obvious attack on Bush. If a pile of rat neurons can fly a fighter plane, I guess it wouldn't be too far fetched that George could too.

Yet George got grounded. Obviously, his brain is inferior to a rat's.
