Confused on Two Points in the Bush/Cheney 04 Campaign

OK, I would like someone to be able to explain this to me. Currently, Bush and his campaign seems to be doing the best it can to promote an image of John Kerry as the "Most Liberal Senator in Congress". The President used that term repeatedly in both debates, and repeatedly in speeches afterward. I've been watching CNN a good deal, and many of the Bush campaign managers are using the same terminology concerning the Democratic candidate.

However... in the months leading up to the second debate, including during the first debate itself, the Republican campaign was doing its best to typify Kerry as a "flip-flopper", someone that was never consistent on the issues. As President Bush put it before the first debate, "He seems to have every side to the issues. He could probably spend 90 minutes debating himself."

Now... the thing is, this really doesn't make alot of sence to me. How can Kerry flip flop, and yet still be so determinedly liberal? It would seem to be a contradiction, you can't be consistently on one side of the issues if you're also always changing your position.

Can anyone explain this to me, other then simply "Bush was lying before, but is telling the truth now", or "bush was telling the truth before, but is lying now"?

You are close!

The correct answer is:

C. Bush was lying before and is lying again now.

Twas a flip-flop. Er... pardon me...

I forget: Democrats flip-flop.

Republicans: 'clarify their position'.

I love the Bush/Cheney campaign.
John Kerry is a lying, hyper-liberal commie sympathizer who married a ketchup heiress for her money.

Two contradictory attacks.

1) Kerry is a wishy washy man with no ideals.
2) Kerry is the most hardcore commie liberal the nation has ever seen.

Similarly Bush is either the most idiotic moron to ever hold office, or the most sinister plotting right-wing devil ever.

I'm confused about the whole "compasionate" conservative, unless saving a fetus is considered heroic these days...

No, the biggest liberal there ever was would have to be either Washington, Lincoln, or T. Roosevelt.
Talk about progressive politicians!

The best way to understand republican things these days is to consider their stated intention to be evidence to its opposite.

Clear skies and healthy forrests are just some of the more blatant examples.

"compassionate conservative" is pretty blatant too.

You love the campaign? Which part do you like best, the Cheney grimace plastered all over the newspapers? The massive cash production of it all? The ceaseless media monstrosity? Perhaps the 40 some trips on Air Force One to Ohio?

Oh, I bet its just how hyperbolic crap that just never stops flapping out of Karl and Karen!

Maybe you could just elucidate yourself?

Wahoo!

Disclaimer- I would classify myself as a moderate. Bush does a lot of things that annoy me yet I can't seem to trust Kerry either, other Dems maybe, but not Kerry. I just wish they would let me have a write in vote, but, alas...

Anyway...

To go back to the point of the original post. The title of "most liberal..." went to Kerry because of a count done by a magazine, I think it was "National Review", of Sen. Kerry and his recent voting record while in office. Unless I'm mistaken, it was also for a set period of time, 6 months/1 year or something. The flip flop position comes from an overall look at Kerry and his voting/comment past...

Just FYI...

Hello? FDR? Come on!

But yeah, those two attacks don't make any sense at all. But you know what's funnier? All the Republicans I know keep spitting those two things back to me like they're magical chants. So they're either repeating a lie...or repeating a lie. Glorious. Excuse me while I hang myself.
