The ghost of Pulse magazine lives....

dammit....

I think being stranded with only ten albums would drive me insane. As with everything of this nature, the picks are almost random and would change if you asked me in another five minutes:

1. Sketches of Spain Miles Davis (Sort of an obvious choice, but I wouldn't tire of that one so quick)
2. Ferociously Stoned The Cherry Poppin' Daddies. (shut-up)
3. Howl U.S.A. Kronos Quartet (Unless I could make some sort of hybrid cd between this one and Night Prayers. I like Harry Partch in principle....)
4. Giant Steps John Coltrane. (again, a little obvious, but I'm going to go around humming Sydia's Song Flute anyway....)
5. Last Chance to Dance Medeski Martin and Wood (compilations cheat the system a bit, which explains-
6. This is Jazz 30 Dirty Dozen Brass Band (it's like not having to choose one. Kinda.)
7. Mahler in Tolbach Uri Caine. (hard to describe, except as free/third stream jazz renditions of Mahler pieces...)
8. 6 and 12 String Guitar Leo Kottke.
9. Blues and Ballads World Saxophone Quartet
10. Any Eric Dolphy, preferably with God Bless the Child

There is no way in hell Pulse magazine came up with anything on its own. They just had a monthly section on it, which is how I relate to the question. I worked at Tower way too long.....

Better choice, especially since it's a double so it's almost like cheating. That or Live/Evil

With Miles it's never really a question of 'what I prefer' as it is 'what do I feel like this time,' though that question is rarely answered with Tutu....

Something good had to come out of working at Tower that long. I got to meet some cool musicians and artificially inflate my collection with promos. My CD collection looks pretty impressive until you start looking at the titles. Most even I wouldn't spend money on but I like having.

That sorta depends..we have the electricity for the cd but no phone to get off the damned island? :) Almost any music seems like it would get real old real fast if it was all you had. Then also my choices would be different if I was stranded alone or with someone, and if with someone, if I love them or hate them :)

as it turns out i AM going to a desert island next week. thats desert not deserted.
i bought a sony walkman and made a CD with 404 songs on it. all legally done out of my own cd collection of course

turns out the answer is

brooks and dunn greatest hits 1
frank sinatras greatest hits 1
toby keiths greatest hits 1
linda ronstats greatest hits 1
nat king coles greatest hits
hank williams greatest hits 1
pasty clines greatest hits 1
beatles one
dixie chicks greatest hits (as compiled by me)
bob dylans greatest hits 1

all greatest hits collections because why waste my list on songs i dont like?

there are of course more artists on my cd than that but those were the must haves

for books i would have to take lord of the rings (my fav book of all time) and the complete works of sherlock holmes. plus pen and paper to jot down my own rantings. (in real life im only taking books i havent read, paper to jot down my poker winnings, and watercolor painting supplies)

1. Miles Davis - Kind of Blue

2. Joe Lovano - Quartets

3. Frank Sinatra & Count Basie - Sinatra at the Sands

4. Dave Douglas - A Thousand Evenings

5. Ella Fitzgerald & Louis Armstrong - Ella & Louis

6. Mahler's 5th Symphony - can't decide between Bernstein (New York) and Solti (Chicago)... flip a coin

7. Wynton Marsalis & Kathleen Battle - Baroque Duet

9. Wayne Shorter - Footprints Live!

10. Bjork - Greatest Hits (I love all these, even if it's missing Unison)

Wow that's too hard, and the list (or some of it) would change tomorrow... or this afternoon!

Me using a computer at school would be rather strange, actually, for two reasons. Firstly, its 2AM here, and I don't know any school that would let me in its grounds after 6 at the latest. Secondly, I'm all finished school.

Wow, you just love to troll for arguments, don't you? Now I understand it is probably due to some inferiority you percieve in your day-to-day life, but really.
