The improbable has happened!

The Yankees get shelled in Game 7 of the ALCS 10-3 and lose the series 4 games to 3!

This is the first time in Major League history that a team has climbed from an 3 games to none deficit to win the series.

Way to go Boston Red Sox!

BREAK THE CURSE!!!!!

This goes beyond baseball. This falls under the category of Sports Lore. This is, without any explanation of the game, the stats or the rules, epic. To come back from three games under in a best of 7 series has never been done in the entire history of the game. Hell, no team has ever made it 3-3 after being down 0-3. That this was done in a game involving the greatest and most storied rivalry in American sports makes this series, for now and evermore, one of the greatest in history.

I'm not even a Red Sox fan.

It happened twice in hockey. 1975 Pittsburgh overcame a 3-0 series deficit to win and 1942 in the Stanley Cup Finals Toronto came back to win the Cup after trailing 3-0.

Screw the Red Sox. Screw Johnny "Nanook" Damon. Screw David Arias, er, Ortiz (for those who don't know, he used to be David Arias). Screw "Skillet Mitt" Ramirez - Manny's a great hitter but a horrible baseball player. Screw Pedro - the Yankees' bitch (they even hit him in Game 7). Screw Curt Schilling. His ankle looked fine while he was in the middle of the celebration. Screw Derek Lowe too. OK, I actually like Trot Nixon and Doug Mientkiewicz, but don't tell anyone!!

Now I have to hope the Babe hovers over that rat trap known as Fenway Park and whatever N.L. stadium so that he can haunt the Sox. Remember, they were there in '86 and lost, so the curse remained.

If they actually win, what fun would we have? It's quite enjoyable talking about the Sox and the Cubs not being able to win.

Now, as a Yankees fan, I feel bad for every other team in baseball. Big Stein is not happy and you can bet he'll be on a mission to improve his troops. Carlos Beltran, Carl Pavano...yep, they'll look nice in the Bronx. There's even talk that Pedro might be a Yankee (I don't think I could deal with that though). Hell, maybe George will just piss off all of Beantown and bring former hero Nomar to NY and have him play 2B. Sure, he's a SS, but so was A-Rod. I also think George is going to dump Joe Torre and pay scientists to bring Casey Stengel and Billy Martin back to life so they can form a manager/bench coach duo.

OK, I must now go being my 3-week bender!!

Still a very impressive game.

Johnny Damon had what? A grand slam AND a 2 run homerun?

Ortize had a two run homerun that should've been a three run blast except that the third base coach waving Damon home and got tagged out.

Now I'm hoping that that Astros goes to the W.S. That would be an interesting series.

I've been a Red Sox fan for 29 years, and the team we've put together over the last two years is truly special. They are jokers, oddballs and friends, and now they have shown that teamwork is king. Maybe they took a cue from the Patriots, I don't know. The Yankees are at the end of their run, overspending on underachieving all-stars and losing sight of the bottom line: it takes 25 guys to win the big one. Go Sox!
Tarlachia

I used to follow baseball more closely, and the Yankees were one of my choice teams to watch. However, to hear that the Red Sox actually beat...no...whupped the Yanks is a big suprise, but a well earned one. Now of course, I've heard from die-hard Yank fans: "The Red Sox only won cuz the Yankees let them win!"

As for the curse, I'd say it's not over yet, they've only taken the second step out of three... The first was surviving the main season, the second was the post season defeat of the Yankees...the final rests on their performance in the World Series...

Maybe they'll become reknown for winning the W.S.

or...

Maybe they'll fall into the anals of baseball history as a still-cursed team...

Who knows? It depends on their teamwork

Anyone who thinks that beating the Yankees like this doesn't signify the end of the curse doesn't know Red Sox baseball from their asshole. For us Red Sox faithful, the curse has always been about beating the Yankees, not the World Series. To humiliate the Yankees in this fashion is a much greater achievement in our minds than winning the World Series could ever be. To anyone saying that the Red Sox have to win the World Series to end the curse, you don't know what you're talking about. It's always been about beating the Yankees.

yes, the yankees have had a very good team for years, i have to admit, but that doesnt mean i like them. i'm personally tired of hearing about the yankees and etc, so i'm glad to finally see someone else beat them. like it or not, the sox played very well, they outplayed the yankees, and deserved to win the series. plus, i think it's nice to see a team that hasnt been dominating to win and go to the world series.

the sox are going to get a good challenge either way, be it the cards or the astros who win, so even since i dont watch baseball a whole lot, i might have to make a point to watch at least part of the series.

but i'm more of a football fan than anything, so i have to just say, go steelers! :D

Dear Boston Red Sox fans: Congratulations. Celebrate while you can. Hear's a little history:

http://www.baseball-almanac.com/ws/wsmenu.shtml

The Boston Red Sox have made it to the World Series 9 times in 101 years. Well, 10 if you count
the Boston Americans who won the 1st series in 1903. Besides 1903: 1912 (won), 1915 (won),
1916 (won), 1918 (won), 1946 (lost), 1967 (lost), 1975 (lost), 1986 (lost), and now 2004.
That's exactly 4 times in my life (53)...and not a win in that half century - yet, anyway.

4 wins
4 losses
1 yet to be determined
9 total (10 if you count the Boston Americans in 1903 - and they won, so that'd be 5)

The New York Yankees have been in the series 39 times in 101 years: 1921 (lost), 1922 (lost),
1923 (won), 1926 (lost), 1927 (won), 1928 (won), 1932 (won), 1936 (won), 1937 (won),
1938 (won), 1939 (won), 1941 (won), 1942 (lost), 1943 (won), 1947 (won), 1949 (won),
1950 (won), 1951 (won), 1952 (won), 1953 (won), 1955 (lost), 1956 (won), 1957 (lost),
1958 (won), 1960 (lost), 1961 (won), 1962 (won), 1963 (lost), 1964 (lost), 1976 (lost), 1977 (won),
1978 (won), 1981 (lost), 1996 (won), 1998 (won), 1999 (won), 2000 (won), 2001 (lost),
2003 (lost). That's 22 times in my life, and 13 of those wins.

26 wins
13 losses
39 total
