Political mayhem

It is sad that when ever people discuss anything political in this forum that people automatically attack them. They do not discuss the issue they simply attack them. I on several occasions have had my grammar or spelling attacked because I disagreed on a political issue. Granted I speak several foreign languages English being one of them. I am a native German speaker who is now a US citizen and I am proud of that. However I am very disappointed in the maturity and the general lack of respect in these forums. I have seen Christians attacked I have seen pro gay marriage attacked anti gay marriage attacked.

For the sake of all that is good can not one person in this forum just discuss an issue without being belligerent and rude to someone who thinks otherwise? Is that to much to ask? We are all human beings with different minds different views. That should be respected not insulted. Listen to someone who disagrees with you, maybe you could learn something or at least learn to agree to disagree. Was it not a great American Philosopher?
Who once said? “I may not agree with what you say but I will die for your right to say it.”

I know that this will do no good. And I am sure you are all ready to insult this post. Or a moderator will remove this for “not being in the proper forum” but I felt it needed to be said.

Respect that’s all I ask

I won't attack somone for their political view unless I see a seriously major flaw in their thinking. any other time I will sit back and let the sparks fly.

I wonder how many political boards you've been to? And what your definition of an attack is?

This board is mild compared to others.

Too true. I've seen some very harsh boards.

You misspelled GrammAR! JerkwaD!

XD

Dont worry. When people insult your spelling or grammar that just means you have trumped their argument and they need to divert attention from it. So they try to bog the debate down in semantics. eg. You Syuck!

You know, there are a select handful of people who generally start with the smearing. One of them (whom I will not name) constantly accuses people of being immature or unintelligent. I've had several run-ins with this person (and others like him) and empathize with you completely. For what it's worth, I haven't attacked anyone's grammar unless they attacked someone else's first (this person uses that as a default tactic). As far as I'm concerned, unless someone has flawless grammar and typographical skills all the time, they don't have any business thinking themselves linguistically superior. Heck, I've been teaching English for nearly 20 years now and even I don't know all the rules (or use them all the time).

I also hope there'll be a day when people will stop with the mudslinging and just debate the issue on the table. Anything less is just embarrassing.

Well, start it up then. I'd love to see some good ol' fashion debate and rhetoric. Go ahead, philosophize!
In fact, I name you Philosopher General. You seem reasonably intelligent. Get something going here.
