... is apparently not able to provide for an applicable voting system. Can it get even more embarrassing than last time?

In that case, you'd be better off putting the word deomacracy in inverted commas for the title of this thread! :p

There was nothing wrong with the system we had. A bunch of semi-literate morons couldn't be bothered to read their ballot, and so we had to rush a change to this computerized system.

That voting methodology is a state (or even local) issue, with no guidance or much funding from the Federal government. There are at least 7 different methods used around the country! (I'm not even counting absentee ballots, as those are straightforward vote-by-mail).

For example, CT and NY are monolithic: they only use the mechanical voting machines. This makes voting easier: there is only one way to vote, one way to recount, and expaining things to people is pretty easy.

Pennsylvania, OTOH, has *5* different systems: paper ballots, punch cards, lever machines, optical-scan systems and electronic systems!

What we need is to have one standard, nationally accepted voting methodology. Still controlled by officials at a local level, but the same everywhere in the USA.

The good old fashioned paper ballots where you mark your "X" for the candidate that you want has always worked elsewhere. They should just keep it simple for all the voters. Sure they could adopt some sort of optical scanner system, but in my experience, human counters work better.

Since the US is NOT a democracy, then you are certainly not referring to us. There is NO ABSOLUTE RIGHT to vote for President in the US. You will NOT find it written anywhere.

Read the Constitution, the states can choose their ELECTORS in any way they deem appropriate. That they choose to ALLOW the citizens to do so does not constitute a "right" to vote.

The US is not a democracy? What is it then?

The Scandinavian countries. Germany. France. Basicly western Europe. I don't think that the elctoral system is democratic, the only way to make the USA democratic is counting all of the votes in a nationwide count. One person - one vote. The present system doesn't automaticly mean that the person who gets the most votes win. That's not very democratic to me.

Yeah, I like the paper ballot. Easy to deal with; easy to submit. ;) one of the only tradtional things that I do like.

The other good thing about a paper ballot is the fact that there is physical evidence that you voted and who you voted for. With electronic systems that's simply gone, and instead your left with an esily deletable, easily modified electronic record of what you did. I know what I trust.

Since when is the USA the 'greatest democracy on earth'. I think Britain has been holding that title for several hundred years.

The more extensive the right to vote within any given democracy, the more that the democracy panders to, and is ruled by, the least common denominator.

"One man one vote" should read "one moron one vote"

If we were a real democracy, we could vote away our bill of rights and legislate morality. Thank god we are, or at least the founding fathers were, smarter than that. True democracy has as many negative points as true socialism does. America is all of these, side by side, working together.
