Nationstates Debate Request

Shalrirorchia

I want to hold our own little debate here on the Nationstates Forum, with commentary from both the Left and the Right supporting our respective candidates. Obviously, to do that, I need two people...a neutral moderator (I would prefer an undecided voter), and someone who backs George W. Bush, since I am a Kerry man.

The audience can watch the arguments unfold (there will be five to six topics chosen by the moderator), and can vote on who is winning the debate. The audience can watch, tag, and bump, but should otherwise remain quiet until the debate is concluded. The two open positions are on a first come, first serve basis.

Actually, I like your open letter to Ohio too much to be impartial over such an important matter.

Good luck in the debate!! Actually just the facts should win it for you.

You can't be the moderator too! That would give you an unfair advantage, because you could phrase and choose the questions best suited for you! :>

Either a neutral or a republican one, I don't mind. Just not a liberal liar.

I don't really have any political affiliation. I don'tlike to insult myself by giving me a label. I have principles and I have beliefes but they are my own, not someone elses that I have borrowed. I am European though so may be able to provide a bit of neutrality.

Of course. I did do American Politics at A Level and am continuing with some of it at Degree though so I am far from ignorant of American Politics.

It is just that as a foreigner, I can perhaps see things from a perspective not so subjective as yours. I can't promise absolute objectivity, but I can promise that I will not be deliberately biased.

I like this idea. If Psylos agrees, and the moderator is willing to put up with getting barraged by questions, then Town Hall will be fine.

We need more than two parties.

I suggest you open up some positions for:

Libertarian
Green
Constitution
1 or 2 Independents

I will allow a Green Party rep to join the debate if the Republican agrees.

First, we need some ground rules, if I may be so bold as to suggest them. We will attempt to follow debate rules.

This means no ad hominem attacks. Simply calling someone a liar is unacceptible. If you think your opponent is being untruthful, please be specific and back up your charge with sources. The moderator will be in charge of accepting or rejecting the sources cited.

No "straw man" arguments. Restating your opponents position in an untruthful or overly simplistic way in order to attack the degraded position is not allowed.

Avoid labels and generalizations. Simply calling someone a conservative or a liberal is not proof of the weakness of their argument. Again, attack the assertions and specific points, not the debater.

I propose a fact checker for both sides. They will not be able to add new points to the argument, but will be in charge of researching the points already presented. Perhaps a different thread would be appropriate for that. The debaters can appoint their fact-checker. The moderator has the power to accept or reject the facts in dispute at that point.

Do not dodge the questions. If the question is about your own position, do not deflect it by attacking your opponent's position, though one can still compare and contrast.

The Green party is to the left of the Democrats. They are anti-big business, pro environment, and somewhat socialistic. They also support proportional representation, rather than winner takes all.

According to Green Website they were against war in Afganistan. They are too passive I think.

I do agree with Patriot Act stance, i'm against it.

Both Democrats and Repubs try to increae military but I thought Repubs say Clinton lowered it? Are greens lying or are republicans?

Actually Democrats do support getting rid of Global warming it lied.

Kerry has a form of National Health service so Greens are wrong.

Many of the greens policies are bad and there are much better supported idea in democrats according to greens.

But in general if the presidency wasn't at stake they might be a consideration.
