Easy one to start with...

Who were the Mightyhandful?
Sussudio

Jesus, easy one?

That is obscure shit. I had to take a brief exploration but I found that they are what I knew vaguely as "The Five". A few Russian composers who started a movement to establish a "Russian" style of music. Heavily influenced Stravinsky.

Sussudio

The only pianist I know to have played with Clapton is Chuck Leavell, he also played with the Black Crowes, Rolling Stones, and Blues Traveler, so Train might be also be included.

All I know about the beginnings of the Hives is the omnipresence of a mysterious man named Mr Randy Fitzsimmons.

That looks like some weird variation of E major, but I'm not sure it is a chord.

Pfft. Any combination of notes is a chord. Whether or not it sounds good, of course, is a different story.

Actually in hindsight take off the low E string. There. Sounds good now.

Now what would you call it? You said any music related question Sussudio...

Why not? Because it has discordant B and Bb?
Sussudio
19-10-2004, 13:31
Aleatoric is a style of music where the composer lets the music develop itself, like a luck of the draw. An example would be assigning each piano key a number and drawing numbers for the succession of notes.

I'll get back to you on the other one.

Because some combinations of notes ar no chord but just a combination of notes.

Are you suggesting that C - C# - D is a chord?

Contrapuntal is where you have three or more melody and/or harmony lines moving in different directions to each other. Also called polyphony.

Yes. Where do you get your definition of a chord? Where does it say that chords cannot be dissonant?

(voice from the crowd): Let's hear from the guy with a degree in Music Theory and who teaches music!

Yes ... let's ....

*clears throat*

Any combination of three or more notes, whether dissonant or harmonic, is, in fact, a chord. C-C#-D is, technically, a chord. It may not sound pleasant, but by all definitions, it is a chord.

Now ....

E - 0
A - 2
D - 2
G - 3
B - 0
E - 0

E - B - E - A# - B - E

That is an Edim5, most commonly used in Chicago Jazz, but can also be found in the late Romance era composers, such as Debussey.

That is all.

Now, if you're going to make a thread where you say you're going to answer some questions, then answer some questions!

Wow. Thanks a lot!

I just made it while playing around, and thought it sounded damn cool.

What would you call E - B - F - A# - B - E ?

Hell, What if i just muted all the strings that are open in those chords, then what would you call them.

Sorry for being difficult, but this is just one of those things that I just have to know. lol

Kurt Cobain killed Kurt Cobain, don't give me that courtney love crap, she didn't hold the gun

I don't like putting lyrics on here, they are too long, however, Caring is Creepy and Louie Louie are two of my favorite songs. Against the Rest? Don't know anything about it.

Against the Rest? Don't know anything about it.

No worries, I picked the toughest thing I didn't know. Knowledge recorded about 10 songs (unfotunately - they had talent), only released on a tribute CD after the lead singer's suicide. The lyrics for "Against the Rest" are listed as "pending," and probably always will be. No amount of Googling has ever answered the question, so I figured it made a good challenge.

I have a soft spot for the 'who needs love to have any fun/who needs love when you got a gun' version by Black Flag, which it must be admitted is a million miles away from the original calypso lyrics.

Oh yes, there's several of us if you look hard enough... of course in my not so humble opinion Rollins was the worst singer the band ever had, and I am still much happier listening to their earlier output with Keith Morris or Dez Cadena or even Chavo Pederast, but that's beside the point.

I have a couple of Rollins' spoken word albums and the man can't tell a story for shit. It's almost like he's trying to hard. I saw Black Flag when I was in High School only because a local band (Dead Horse) was opening for them and I wanted to see the locals.

I liked Rollins' stage presence and his delivery, but I knew his lyrics had to come from somewhere deeper than that jock lookin' MF could come up with.
