Chuck Canterbury, President of the Fraternal Order of Police, the nation`s largest police labor organization, called on John Kerry to stop making misleading statements regarding his support from the law enforcement community. "As the elected leader of the largest organization representing America`s Federal, State and local law enforcement officers, I believe it`s important to point out yet again that we do not support his candidacy for President," Canterbury said.

Seems like when the going gets tough, the pathetic seem to have gone astray!

At what stage in your development did you come to the conclusion that throwing insults around is a good way to communicate with people?
That's what's really wrong with this board. That's why we can't have a rational, well behaved debate. When the going gets tough, most people resort to acting childish. And I'm not gonna be hypocritical and say it's just conservatives- there's at least as much of this being done by liberals. If anything that disgusts me more, because they're dirtying my viewpoint with their ignorant, largely illiterate comments.
Not that I expect you (the quoted) to take this into the least bit of consideration. Just keep in mind that, while you dismiss me with a witty smear against evading liberals, all the intelligent people on both sides are going to be shaking their heads and laughing as you reinforce my point.

First: I am not a supporter of Bush nor Kerry ... being how passionate people can get over their political beliefs I thought I should just throw that out before more frivolous and unjustified insults are thrown around.
I was not aware that Kerry had made these claims so I went to go look it up.
I searched through transcripts of the third debate for the following key words:
cop police law enforcement supporti did not find anything that I personally considered to be a suggestion that police organizations support Kerry for president. I did find the following excerpt but to me it sounds like Kerry saying he supports police and not vise versa.
And most of the law enforcement agencies in America wanted that assault weapons ban. They don't want to go into a drug bust and be facing an AK-47.
I was hunting in Iowa last year with a sheriff from one of the counties there, and he pointed to a house in back of us, and said, "See the house over? We just did a drug bust a week earlier, and the guy we arrested had an AK-47 lying on the bed right beside him."
Because of the president's decision today, law enforcement officers will walk into a place that will be more dangerous. Terrorists can now come into America and go to a gun show and, without even a background check, buy an assault weapon today.
The Fraternal Order of Police seem to be very animate about their lack of support.

If somebody can give me an example of Kerry making a claim (either direct or overtly implied) than I could understand how this would be a big deal. but as far as I am seeing the FOP supports Bush and I am not seeing that support contested.

It was also televised during the nightly news hour. I think that scandal that rather guy started, that same channel also hosted it. It showed the police order people, and Mr Kerry, in front of them. The caption on the news was the fraternal order of police support him, etc. That was the main slice of cake for this fallacy, and it must be since the main man says it ain't so!
It's kinda hard to link a news show to a URL, so don't holler.

With the caption I can understand why FOP would come out so strong to declair that they do not support him. Looks like somebody fuckedup. I wonder if it was another news caster trying to make his story more interesting by bending the truth, reporting unsubstantiated rumors, or flat out lying?
