Pitbulls --- lovers and haters alike...

Make with the watching of the flash movie linked below.

General warning and rambling:
I've read through the forum rules (all of them, hopefully), and don't *think* this breaks any of them... it also has warnings in the flash itself. But it does have violence (photos of pit bull fights), and explicit language in the background music. So if you want to avoid those, now's your chance to leave.

It's in response to the banning of pitbulls in... well, wherever they've been banned recently (I'm in Australia, and the banning is somewhere in America I believe, so I don't have *all* the details).

I'm normally apathetic towards dogs (cat person speaking). But this is enough to make me want to go out and open a dog shelter. And then beat the shit out of the heartless bastards of the world.

Enough ranting:

(Note to mods: if this does break one of the rules, I can only extend greatest apologies. I tried to check everything, but I can't be sure I didn't miss something. I promise not to be incensed if the link has to be removed)

If the link does have to be removed, dog-lovers or the curious can feel free to PM me for it.

Pitbulls are quite a controversial subject.

Pitbulls are outlawed in my city, whenever the Humane Society gets a pitbull in they immediately destroy the dog. This is done out of ignorance. You can't punish a dog for being a dog.

My wife works with animals that have behavioral problems, and I've worked with some very aggressive pits, chows, and those little yipeyipe terrier dogs are the worst. But they've all been rehabilitated into loving animals.

Owners are responsible for encouraging aggressive behavior, what some people call "playing" with their dog, in reality is teaching the dog that biting is appropriate.

On the flip side there is a genetic tendency for pitbuills to suffer from mental disease that has nothing to do with cruel treatment, but I've never come across a dog I could not help.

Stuff like that makes me start crying. No more bad links!!!

Ok, seriously though, I've always said that the problem is with the owners. One of my favorite breeds is the Rotweiller and they get a bad rap too, just because if you do something to make them angry enough, they cause a good bit of damage. However, for the most part, they are the sweetest dogs you'll ever meet and it takes an awful lot to get them mad enough to attack.

The thing with pitbulls is that they were bred and trained to be aggressive, and many people buy them with that in mind - as they want to look like they have a powerful dog. They want their dog to say "back off, don't mess with me." However, many are not willing to put in the training time to make sure that their guard dog understands when and who to attack. They just want the image, not the hassle. And that is a problem, because loving owners willing to put in the training time could raise a very sweet dog.
