Is getting "old and decrepit" a choice?

Just thought I'd add this to the list of polls about physiological and/or hormonal changes people are subject to.

Keep in mind that the question isn't about "getting old," since there is only one other option, one which I find unacceptable. :)

The question is about whether getting old AND decrepit ( worn out, broke down, etc. ) is a choice.

yup its inevitable. although im not planning to get to the decrepit part until im over 90.

this is what i tell my sister (she always hates it when i do)

this is IT. its all downhill from here (even though we have both been firmly on the OTHER side of the hill for years). you will never be better looking, you will never be smarter, you will never be quicker, you will never be stronger.

all you can do is try to keep what you have for as long as you can. we OLD people cant coast on our youth. we have to fight every day to keep ourselves in the best shape possible.

otherwise the downhill slide is very fast.

I'm sure science will find some way to prevent aging eventually.

The structure of everyone's body (as well as how they have treated it) is different, but eventually, we will all break down.

You don't have to get old. There's a whole host of ways you can die before you ever get old.

Very true! I'm fond of saying that one of the greatest tragedies in anyone's life is dying without ever having truly lived.

I sincerely hope you're correct about this, but I seriously doubt it will be in time to do me any good personally.

There are already many ways you can delay the onset of decrepitude, although most people are either unaware of them or just ignore them. The real question though is whether we can discover enough about genetics and "programmed aging" to take care of things not under our personal control.
